ISP help needed in Bombay!!

Ok, Here is the lowdown.

I use MTNL broadband. Till recently, i used a scheme which gave me speeds from 512kbps-2mbps. Actual download speeds were satisfactory from between 100-300kbps at times. the only problem was that i love downloading movies and music and thus, that combined with brilliant speed...resulted in me getting a massive firing from mom every month. Recently, my net bill alone came upto around 6.5k and my phone bill in total was around 8.5k. So, i went to the MTNL office and decided to change my scheme. I chose a scheme which gives the following:

256kbps
Unlimited Download
2500 per month.

Now, though the download is unlimited, the speed in painfully slow! Imagine going from driving a BMW M3 to a maruti 800!!! Yea.....

Now i need urgent help! I am sick and tired of MTNL and their useless service. I need an ISP who will give me Unlimited download with speeds above 512kbps. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!! I am willing to pay around 2500p.m.

I stay in Dadar PArsi Colony near 5Gardens so Please guide me accordingly!!

Thanks in Advance!!

cyrus how many gb do you download in a month. one option is tata indicom. they have plans of 2mbps where you can download 5gb for like 1600 or so per month and then pay a certain amount per mb over that.

I doubt you would get any ISP who would be better than MTNL as of now in terms of
- cost and throughput. Have you complained regarding the speeds on change of plan.
I think it would be improper on the part of MTNL to choke your bandwidth for an Unlimited Plan. Maybe you can try out their Night Unlimited plan and observe whether it reverts back to high speeds.

here is what i do.
I have 500c combo plan of bsnl, (dunno if mtnl has these or not).
speed =256kbps upto 2mbps
nightime unlimited free :- from 2 am to 8am
1.5gb download free

I have put a software that shutsdown the system at 7:50 am.

Most of my downloads are scheduled through DAP and utorrent or limewire.

And yeah i have set the router to dail PPPoE instead of instant on.

Ya right. So what kind of movies do you download cyrus..??? Stop downloading so much P and you will be ok with the speeds you get. Other option is to buy cds from the station.

I have the 500kpbs at 3000p.m 2.5gb P.m and 12AM to 7am free.

Cyrus, Reliance Wimax is a good option for you. For the budget, you can get the 1MBPS plan, as Frank has suggested. Also check out Five Network's cable internet plans. They also have good unlimited plans.

MTNL's 256 kbps for 2500 bucks is a total rip-off.
