There are two ways:

1. Buy a Nokia phone that is not Windows Phone (E.g.: http://www.flipkart.com/nokia-c5-05-...md4mykpxp2wmzn) Java program (technically J2ME would run out of box on this)
2. Buy an Android phone and run this J2ME app via one of the emulators

What about this - http://www.flipkart.com/nokia-c2-02-...BDYYN2SQDQXBNP

Would it run a Java program? The description says "Java | Yes".

One would need a JRE to run a java program - can I assume this "Series 40" OS whatever it is comes with a JRE.

Would there be difference between JRE implementations on Different Java Phones (i.e. diff phone OSes)

Or was that finished with the WP?

Yes this should work too.

Yes, this phone should have a JRE since it says java-yes. Nokia's site would be more definitive on this. (JRE a.k.a. J2ME which is JRE for phones/blu ray players etc)

Yes each platform works differently, E.g. BlackBerry has its own JRE.

Only way program would work "reliably" is if you ask the developer which phone is was tested on and use the phone from same family (S40, S60, Blackberry, Old Windows Mobile etc).

Yes, it stopped with WP7.

Even the prices of Note2 are decent now. I picked it up on launch day and loving every bit of Note2.

Did check the Note2. Its an awesome device but the size is rather too big for daily use. Big screen has its benefits but it hardly fits into jeans.
I think apart from higher RAM and bigger battery, S3 too is quite competitive.
For what price did you get your Note 2 ?

You can also consider the Asus Padfone 2. Steller specs (I think better than the SG3) and also looks to boot (hands down best looking droid and in class of iphone). Check it out on Google. It was unveiled by Asus yesterday and should be available soon.

BTW, Asus makes the Google Nexus 7 tablet

Did check the phone over Google.
Numbers look promising and finish is more Apple like.
What about its availablity in India and expected price ?

Why do you think the new Lumia series can be better alternate to Android enabled phones in 30K range ?

Windows phones from 7.5(mango) have a very smooth, intuitive and fresh UI. However, it had its own set of issues like no memory card, no support for 1080p, etc.

That seems to be changing with the Win Mob 8. The hardware definetely has matched what Android has to offer. And Windows UI seems to be very smooth. And I feel Android lags many times even on the best hardware. Example my Xperis S.

With Win 8, MS seems to be bringing desktop and mobile experience together. I personally have been using Win 8 from the first beta, and I have never looked back to 7 again! :thumbs up

Iam planning to gift my wife with a Samsung S3 as I and she both are knocked over by its looks after a brief feel around with it in a mall.

The cheapest price that I saw for S3 on ebay is Rs.32,000. As iam not in a hurry to buy it, will the price drop in near future?

Also, is it a better phone than the IPHONE 4S?:D

We both are noobs in terms of Androids and its plus and minus as we both are blackberry users.

With warranty, there is hardly a change for price drop in near future. Grey market has the option.

For your wife, i would say Iphone 4S makes more sense if she really doesn't know anything about android. it looks fantastic and much pleasing to use its iOS.
Iphone 4S will fit in her palm easily.
I really feel android is for geeks who always wants to play around with the core system.
I has my 1st android as HTC wildfire, then i moved to iphone 4 and now i have official blackberry.
my wife is using xperia ray as it fits in her palm easily, gives access to facebook and twitter on the move and it's not so costly.
i use it for navigation most of the time.
i am just waiting for more price drop for Iphone 4S in grey market in India by this month end because of iphone 5 launch (hopefully). i'll switch wifey's android with iphone 4S.
i just loved reading my RSS feeds in the evening on my iphone 4 earlier. i really miss it.

If you're going to use it in stock form, without fiddling with root and unlocking and all, go with the android.

Even stock its much less restrictive in what you can or cannot do with it.
And you can't beat the quick app installs on the androids.

Thanks Rohan. However, I think Sony is stretching their luck a bit by charging almost 15k for a phone with an 800 Mhz single core processor.
My hunt for the "perfect" 15k phone continues... :)

Motorola Defy+ : Good processor and display, but camera not good. No front camera.

Samsung Ace Plus : No front camera, low resolution display, overpriced.

Sony Xperia Miro : Weak processor, low resolution display, overpriced.

HTC Desire C : No front camera, weak processor, low resolution display, low battery backup.

I would suggest you to increase your budget slightly and go for a 4 inch model like Samsung Galaxy S Duos or Galaxy S Advance.

You could also check out Huawei G300.

Rohan

Check out the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i. It's perfect if you can live with a 3 inch screen. Here's a good detailed review on it:

http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/revi...ini-pro-225319

It's already vanished from Flipkart. Suggest you grab it before it becomes extinct. It's available here:

Sony xperia Arc S, 6 months old (no invoice though). The phone has been used just once and kept in the box. No memory card though.

The price is quoted as 10 k, please advise if it makes sense going for it. The seller is dire need of money hence selling it.

Please advise.

1st thing 1st. Iphone 4s cannot be compared with SGS3, you need to compare SGS2 or some components of SGS3 with Iphone 4s, features present in Iphone 5 were something which users of SGS2 are already used to. SGS3 is way ahead of Iphone5 specs and much better in all aspects. SGS series are more valuse for money, but then as I usually always say, Iphones are always good to have, they make real good and posh paper weights in office.
