2) MP3 quality is strictly average & it does not even have equalizer settings.
3) Incoming & outgoing sound quality is below average!

by the way, you are looking for no options other than these two? IMO, buy the iphone if you are too keen on it's brand value else have a look at other options too.
Thanks Raj I beleive you are in possesion of X10.
I was considering Nokia N8 as well still somehow heart says X10,bigggg fan of its sleek looks.The N8 does not appeals to me much

Its strange that Mp3 quality is average considering Sony's flagship products like Walkman.Cant we have a app which improves the sound reproduction something like we have in our PCs

The i/c and o/g quality might not be comparable to the Nokias but still is it that poor?

Any other shortcomings/suggestions which you would like to share?

It's not just about price with 7 inch screen one would expect that the utility should be slightly higher then a 3 ~ 4 inch screen mobile phone so as to do away with a laptop /net-book.

With Android 2.2 there is no great difference as UI Subsystem is designed for mobile phones. Also once the screen size goes up to 7 Inch it will no longer fit in the pocket so utility as a phone gets killed. What you get is an expensive phone + Photo-frame + slightly bigger browser but still you can not do away with the net-book /laptop for a business meeting.

I would expect Honeycomb release to address some of these issues and cater to large form-factor devices , Samsung is a lead device manufacturer for Honeycomb similar to HTC was for doenut and Eclair.

Guys, looks like the upcoming Nokia C7 is a great alternative to N8. Except for the camera and few features like HDMI port etc, the phone is similar. Functionality also remains the same.

The camera is biggest highlight of the N8. I think I will look at the C7 because the camera is not important for me.

The Nokia C7 has a fixed focus, non-autofocus lens. Also it lacks the Xenon tube electronic flash. It only has simple LED flash.

Internal memory of the C7 is half that of the N8. The N8 has 16GB, the C7 has 8GB.

It lacks the N8's HDMI hardware. Lacks Dolby Digital Plus.

The N8 is available in the fancy Tangerine Orange, Blue and Lime Green
one piece aluminium monocoque design.

And the price of the C7 is Rs. 19,900 while the N8 is 23,100.

I need to buy a phone for my wife. The requirements are:

* Simple Keypad (no qwerty)
* No touch Screen
* Auto Focus Camera with flash (preferably 5mp)

These days, all good phones are either qwerty or touch screen.

She is comfortable with Nokia but could not find anything in Nokia. Nokia X2 comes close but that is fixed focus.

Budget can be 10-12k.

Any suggestion guys ?

Yes, i have the X10. I would like to add that I love the phone & i considered it over the iphone & I am happy i did!

Its just that the exact shortcomings of the phone are your priorities as mentioned above! hence, i think you wont like the phone.

till now, i have not seen a software which improves sound quality. the call quality is not very poor but as you said, not comparable to nokias. other SE users does not have a problem with my phone's call quality.

Other shortcomings:

1) Calender requires you to sign in to Google & if you have a vodafone card with basic GPRS, you wont be able to access the calender. I understand its Vodafone's shortcoming but a basic app like calender should have been freed from google registration.
2) Camera flash is not automatic. you need to manually switch on the flash before clicking pics.
3) It is said that in the new X10 with android 2.1, the pics of your friends in contacts & while calling appear pixelated.

Nothing else i can think of. you are well aware of the pros i guess.

by the way, you should see this.

Sorry for responding late. I was relating to my experience. Had to accompany my roomie to buy an N85. On the second day, the phone hung. We tried a firmware update and a hard reset but gave up. We took it to the same shop, and they gave him a replacement. This new one had some problem with the casing, and replaced it on the next day. He's now happily using the third one. I did read in the Nokia forum that if the unit is faulty, you can get a replacement from the dealer itself within a 7 days time frame. Otherwise, the Service Center is the only way out.

@mukeshgoel:
Try the Sony Ericsson Aino or W995. The Aino's touchscreen is only for multimedia. You still get the alpha-numeric keypad for the other functions.

EDIT: Well, Aino and W995 sell for ~19k, would not fit into your budget. My sister is also on the lookout for a phone with similar characteristics, and she's decided to wait for the 19k price tag to go down a little or for new models

Head to Nokia Messaging: Home and try logging in - the login for Nokia Messaging is usually the first email you configured, and its password.

The autofocus ommission seems to be most irritating thing. My E72 also has the autofocus, so why not the C7. Maybe Nokia wanted some clear differentiation from the N8 and didnt want owners to feel they have paid more.

Lesser internal memory is something to think about, but with SD card prices dropping, not a big issue.

The HDMI and highend cam is not of concern as I have a dedicated cam with HD.

I love the Aluminium body and the finish of the N8. Will take a look at C7 and decide.

Gurus I need your help.

I want to buy a new phone, and i really like the BB pearl 9105 but the only thing stopping me from buying it is that i cannot send an sms to more than 10 reciepient5. Is there any way i can send bulk smses say to 40-40 people at once.

I had been to a shop to buy an nokia X 2 for one of my clients and there he showed me a samsung wave 8500 ( was in mint condition just used for 2 weeks ) but he was asking 14k for it. But i guess i cant send bulk smses in this one too..

Please suggest.

@Chintan : Hey buddy. IMO you cannot compare a blackberry with a samsung Wave. They are two different phones for different set of requirements. Wave is a phone for the person who is more into multimedia and games because of its super amoled screen( I just cant take my eyes off it). Blackberry for the person who needs a qwerty phone with messaging and e-mailing as his sole need. So i guess it's up to you to decide. I have still not checked into the bulk sms thingy because have not started using my Wave as yet, but people here will let you know. I can just suggest that if you are getting a mint condition piece for 14 grands then just go for it. You will not regret once you see it's screen clarity and it's ease of use. There is news of official launch of the Bada 1.2 for the wave in this month itself which will give it the Swype thing which will make sms's a breeze. Hope this helps.
