My New Micromax A116 (Canvas HD)

Hello All,

After many months of planning & thinking, I finally bought Micromax A116 (Canvas HD) from a retail shop in Mumbai.

The cost of the Phone to me was Rs. 16,000 + Rs. 250 scratich guard + Rs. 600 for 16 GB Memory Card (to be purchased).

I would say only one thing - My friends & colleagues who have bought Samsung Galaxy Grand & other Sony Phones for approx Rs. 23000 are dead suprised to see this phone - mainly Display quality & touch sensivity.

Below are main features of the phone:

Screen size - 5 inches
Screen Resolution - 1280 * 720 (HD)
Screen Type - IPS
Colors - True Colors - 16.7 Millions
Operating system - Andriod 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
Processor - 1.2 Ghz, QUAD CORE
Back Camera - 8 MP (But pictures are not upto mark)
Front camera - 2 MP
Battery - 2000 mAh (Easily lasts for 1.5 days)
ROM - 4 GB
RAM - 1 GB
Available Internal Memory - 1.77 GB
External Memory - 32 GB (Expandable)
Ear phones - 3.5 MM (Stock Ear phones generates decent sound effects)

I am not good at writing Cell Phone reviews, but during last 5 days of usage, I am surely happy & satisfied with this phone.

Feel free to ask me any specific queries about this phone.

Thanks,

Yes this is the ame phone which was expected to be called Canvas 3, but Micromax has named it Convas HD.

This is a retail shop in Malad & they managed to get only one phone, which I had pre-booked. They are currently running out of stock.

Hello,

No issues with regards to network connectivity. Though I am using only one SIM Card (Vodafone Mumbai), still the Phone Network, Facebook, Whatsapp, Google Maps, Times of India are working perfectly fine.

I am not into playing games on mobile, but Fruit Ninja works great on this phone.

Thanks,

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi guys,

Need your guidance

I have borrowed Nokia 7230 from wifey. SIM is 4 years old. Was wondering if I can charge the same for 3G internet browsing.

Was trying to understand the specs as shown in GSMARENA and PHONEARENA. But confused.

Being a mech guy, could not comprehend data listed in gsmarena about 3G in 7230, but phonearena lists that the phone is 3G enabled.

http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_7230-3034.php
http://www.fonearena.com/nokia-7230_934.html

Can anyone please guide me and confirm if the said phone is 3G Enabled ?

Can I just topitup with 3G and then use it for browsing ? using

http://www.airtel.in/wps/wcm/connect...vices/tariffs/

Or do I need to buy a new 3G SIM for using the same ?

How is Airtel 3G connectivety is BLR ?

Need help

Edit : To add, its a prepaid connection

Hello,

There is no need to big 3G ready SIM Card. If the Phone support 3G connection, then you just need to subscribe / acticate 3G Plan on your Prepaid Mobile number & get going.

Also, Nokia 7230 is indeed a 3g enabled phone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_7230

Thanks,
Jignesh, thanks for the help. Phew, Now i believe I can charge the same.

A little more digging bought up this data.

are there any specific features to look for while buying a 3G phone?
Not all mobile handsets available in the market support the 3G network, and others offer sub-optimal performance. There are two kinds of 3G phones available - HSPA and WCDMA enabled. airtel recommends using HSPA handsets for higher speeds and the best 3G experience.

what is HSPA and WCDMA?
HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is a new generation communication protocol that allows data connections up to 21 Mbps per user in good coverage and quality conditions. Today mobile phones & USB Data Cards are available with HSPA.
WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is a 3G technology version that allows data connections up to 384 Kbps per user in good coverage and quality conditions.

Phone specs for Nokia 7230 tells me that for 3G, it is
3G Network UMTS 900 / 2100 / 1900

Now, I believe in India, it is UMTS 2100. Since my phone Nokia 7230 is a older version, does it imply I will be getting max 384 kbps ?

Need help

Sameer - Canvas HD is available easily but not Canvas 2 but...

Both are very good phones in their respective budgets. Go ahead without any doubt for any of them.

Thanks Deepak - that link somehow is not working once you press "buy" but.. managed to get one piece in white from Trivandrum. A friend of mine to whom I had mentioned this, spotted it and immediately picked it up for Rs10500

Canvas A110 is available in a shop in Velachery.I have seen a big handwritten poster pasted on the glass door of the shop. This shop is located in Velachery near Baby Nagar. Its located on a small road, about two mins away from the main road.

Directions:
The first intersection after TCS going towards Vijaynagar bus stand is a road going towards Baby Nagar to the left but you need to turn right.(There is a Corner Bakery at the intersection which is big and can be seen easily).

Once you have turned right then keep going straight till you get the first right, take this right and keep moving ahead straight and after about 100 metres or so on the right there is a mobile shop with big Samsung ad above the shop and this shop when I saw it last ( on friday last week) had stocks of A110 priced at 10.5 k.

Well this is one thread I can contribute in every four months or so. As I keep changing my phones. But currently I am using an Apple Iphone 5 & HTC Status. But imho nothing beats the experience of an Iphone. Having used almost 100 odd handsets in last 9 years, I can confidently say IOS is the best user experience.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Guys, forget what phone, I am in a dilemma over what OS to be move. I do not like the build on the Samsung phones, so I've basically restricted myself to the Lumia / BlackBeryy devices for now. I have a few question for you guys to help me understand the current technology hardware:

1. Would the 512 MB ram & 1.0 Ghz really make the 720 that much slower for browsing or emailing in real world use? I have just started using a couple of apps on my BB, no sure if I would classify under the 'heavy apps usage' group.

2. I use a Tata Photon through the day, work and personal use. I'm on a 5 GB plan which lasts for about 25 days after which the speed resets to a slower version for the rest of the month. Can either of the above Lumias or the Z10 provide me a similar or better experience as the Photon if I use the phones for all my Internet usage by opting for a 5 - 7 GB data plan on Vodaphone?

3. On the BlackBerry OS, I have unlimited emails in the 399 plan and 2 GB of free downloads. I have note synced my phone with the Outlook program, so all the emails show up on my phone and then also get downloaded on my Outlook.
Going by my above mentioned Tata Photon usage, I use up about 5 - 7 GB a month for emails, browsing, etc. What plan should I be opting for emails and browsing if I do go the Nokia Windows phone?

Hi Guys,

I am getting MMX Canvas HD A116 at ebay for 17000 Rs. They have one piece left. Is it a good price to buy it? Jignesh got it for 16K, while the intial reviews of the Phone list the price as 14K. What happened, did the demand make them raise the price or is it budget effect?

With those specs, not slow, at least not noticeably.
As for the internet, I'd suggest start with the 2GB 3g plan. Unless you plan to start hot spotting with the phone, you'll find it sufficient.

By the by, why not Android?
