AC gas recharge, big scam?

Yes it should be done and covered free of cost atleast for the first year. Put your foot down and insist. Are the service guys denying it ?

Yes the Hitachi service guys insisted that only the service would be free and gas filling charges have to be paid. Ended up paying Rs 1700 for filling the R22 gas, although this was clearly an installation fault just six months back.

I got an SMS from Hitachi as follows the next day.
"Your call number ----- is closed in our system. Total amount collected Rs 0 for the work done. Please call 35324848 for any other service. Thanking you. Hitachi"

I then called up the service center (Gujarat number) and they confirmed that gas replacement is free for the first time under warranty. Looks like the local authorized service center still insisted on charging this amount although they could have been more honest.

What is the current charges for Gas recharge on an old R22 based Samsung 1.5 Ton Split ?

My service valve is leaking. Can it be repaired by changing washer/O-ring or has to be replaced?
