This same thing has started to happens with my 15 years old Aiwa (before Sony bought it). See it the unit is getting enough ventilation and also right voltage range.

Guys one of the 5.1s in my house is conking off, its a Yamaha basic 5.1. I want a similar basic 5.1 below 30k. Obviously choices are Onkyo 3500 or Yamaha 296, any others? I know for movies both will be good, but what about music? I like and need a lot of bass.

Also are any of these airplay compatible? Do the receivers have an ethernet slot?

And no, they are not network capable. The Onkyo can be hooked up with an iPod etc from the front panel USB, not the Yammy.

How about this Denon guys ? It is less than 30k too. B & T, is it comparable to the Onkyo ?

or even this one

Those are just AV receivers, I'm talking about a full 5.1 system.

Now I understand there won't be much bass with any of these, but comparatively in the budget, which one would be better for my type of music?

None I can think of, besides the Pioneer Todoroki. Most HTiBs will have a 6-8" bass driver with 60-100W amplifiers. And powerful subs are very expensive. How big is the room though?

And my Ipad would be the remote, with the remote app. So Deralte is right :p

That Pioneer looks too big. The room is small, 12x12 or so, my bedroom infact. Looking at the Onkyo 3500, is there anything better at a similar price? Don't want to spend much on this system, 30k tops.

Try the Yamaha YHT-296. It's pretty compact and I liked the demo! Would come around 31-32K though.

Remote for what? The receiver is not a network receiver, so no chance of controlling that. Don't tell me you'll remotely control an iPod that is anyway running wirelessly, with an iPad!

You're welcome. Unless there's some hardware malfunction, resetting always does the trick. Update the firmware next.

Not an ipod. The music is all on my desktop, so I would be controlling that with an ipad :D

If its a network receiver, you can do it online. Else download the file from the Onkyo website to a USB drive and select it.

Hmm, there would be several ways to do that, including by switching on home sharing if natively from iTunes.

A friend and I are planning on a setup similar to yours so thought I'd get your expert suggestions :D
AV Receiver shortlist is:
Denon 1913 / 1912
Yamaha 673 / 671

The latest models Denon 1913 and Yamaha 673 are not available in Bangalore (we don't want to go with grey market stuff after paying so much money and not getting warranty) so we may have to choose between Denon1912 / Yamaha 671.
Primary use is for movies and occasional use for music. Looking for 7.1 channel, Full HD 1080p, 3D support (must-haves),
Airplay, 4K upscaling, etc (like to haves).
To add to the confusion, recently came across these:
Harman Kardon AVR 265
Harman Kardon AVR 365
Onkyo NR 609
Onkyo NR 709
Appreciate if you could advise, especially the feature comparison between these. Once the AV R choice is made, I plan to decide on the speakers (my friend already bought Tannoys recently that he plans to use with the AV R).
NOTE:I'm no AV/HT expert so I may not be able to answer any techie questions related to the AV R shortlist.

Took a look at a basic level Home Theater system today. A Yamaha. Has anyone used this model? http://m.in.yamaha.com/en/products/a..._g/?mode=model

Onkyo Hts3400 (Price quoted 23900/24000/24999)
Yamaha YHT 296 (Price quoted 35000/32000)
Denon DHT 1312XP (price quoted 30000/31900)

Yamaha YHT 296:
Hypercity was selling YHT 294 at 24990. But YHT 296 was not available. Other 3 stores listed in yamaha site had stock but they were not willing to negotiate below 32000. Demo'ed YHT 294, Speakers were let down.

Yet to set it up, will post my feedback once i install it.

Do search :) There are more posted about this
