Fully agreed.

If you want your phone to be less kludgy you need to root / custom ROM it.

e.g Dialing in S3 is like a 3 click process - you go from dialer to contacts, click on search, then you type a name. I put in exDialer. But the problem is that exDialer is not a system app - so i need to use the stock dialer to clear up the missed call list. What a headache.

But yes, lots of other things can often break in a custom ROM. and I no longer have that kinda free time in my life anymore. Hence, sticking to OEM.

Looking into Android 4.4, one thing that jumps out from developer's point of view is "ART".

This replaces Dalvik VM (kind of JVM). With ART End user can choose to compile app to native code. This removes overhead that is associated with VMs. Should shave-off 200 MB RAM for a typical phone.

Developers can also choose to configure App so that is complied to native code during installation.

Planning to get the Note 3 shortly. I love everything about the phone. My only concern is the wifi issue that is being discussed on various android forums. Is that something to be worried about? Also what is the best price I can pick it up for?

Please note that the INDIAN version of NOTE doesn't come with Snapdragon 800.
The best price I could see was 42K, when the flipkart diwali sale was on. 15% off on STANCHART credit cards.

I think you should get it at 44K on the street.

There's no issue with wifi. An added feature in Android 4.3 is the option of automatic network switch - which switches from wifi to mobile network automatically if it detects that your wifi network is unstable or weak.
Many users aren't aware of this feature and that it can be switched off.

This feature is in my One V also which is running on Android 4.0 ICS!

Thanks guys! But this video got me worrying a bit. I don't know if it is the right way to compare the wifi capability of the Note 3. What say?

It's time for me to upgrade my wife's iPhone 4 and my Samsung Galaxy 3. My wife ia fed up of the iOS and want's to switch to Android. Obviously I want to stick to Android. My wife is quite eager to go for the Note 3 whereas I think the Note 2 is a better option considering the price.
- Is the Note 3 really that much better than the Note 2 and does the price difference justify this.
- In case she settles for the Note 2, does it make sense for me to go for the Note 2 as well or are there some good alternatives.
- What are the best prices for the Note 2 & 3?
- Not interested in iOS or Windows. Both phones need to be Android.

You can get a Nexus5 and a Note3! Best of both worlds (in Android land). One is the absolute latest Android has to offer and the other is the absolute best Android has to offer!

No. It doesn't justify. Go for the note 2.

Should be 30k and 44k respectively.

.

Only you can decide based on usage if price diff is justified or not.

Main difference is in the sNote application.
1. Note file format is lightweight xml based backward compatible but not available on note 2
2. Actionable notes : example jot down a number in handwriting and draw a circle around it and call/add to contacts.
3. Air commands.
Other features over note 2.
4. Usb 3.0
5. Personal knox (free) and managed for enterprise use.
6. regular SE policy updates from policy server. But in some cases you may find them to be nuscence because some of the existing applications get force closed as they violate the security policy.
Developers are forced to improve designs due to this but in short term irritating to non serious users who may not value security much.

If you do not want a stylus, the nexus 5 makes good sense. Go for that. At 32Kits good VFM

Camera on the NEXUS is a big downer. I am trying very hard to overlook this.
