What was the issue with the MIUI that made you folks want to switch? Its quite decent eye candy and is quite responsive as well. CM is normally too plain jane for my taste. |
I've been using stock android ever since I bought a Nexus one in Jan 2010. Never used other phones or UIs hence I'm excited at the prospect of installing CM11 which will have the stock Android UI that I long for :D
In the google maps application for android, I do not see option to set up way points to a destination. Any idea how to get it?
In desktop version, there is a "+" option while setting the destination where by I can set up multiple way points to the destination. Missing that in the android app. While travelling, its is very annoying to set up destinations many times.
My final grouse with the RedMi 1S is over. No more MIUI and no more chinese data spying issues clap:
Hello CyanogenMod 11! Hats off to GoKrish for the idea! clap:
PS : One of the steps is to wipe off data partition and it will format your entire internal memory. Make sure you take a proper backup before proceeding with CM11 install.

Considering the capacity and RAM of the phone, I thought a plain CM could improve the performance of the phone. Moreover, I was worried about the data hijacking by MIUI OS! Since, other developers like Mokee, etc are too working on ROM for this phone, options will be many in the near future. Had some apps crashing issues in the stock ROM |
Have you verified if some apps still connect to Chinese servers?

I have done full wipe of system and data before flashing this ROM. And checked all the running apps. No fussy apps. Any other means to check this issue? Thanks, Gopal

So the battery life isn't great on the RedMi 1S |
I'm happy to report the battery life has gone up from 7h 30m to 10h 45m to reach 10% ever since I've installed CM11 on RedMi clap: this is including 2 hours of screen on time.
Few other interesting observations :
- I can finally set default storage for camers as SD Card :D this was impossible on MIUI
- Brightness levels have increased. Minimum on CM11 = 30% on MIUI. Can't really explain why, max brightness levels have also increased
- Phone is definitely snappier while having the same ~150-170MB free RAM as MIUI before
- I keep getting notifications that SIM card has been added/removed and reboot is needed. I just cancel them, haven't rebooted and nothings wrong. No app crashes so far.
Looks like Sony Xperia Z3 is being launched today.
Price of Z2 has been dropped to 39k.

Z3 and Z2 - not too different. I use the Z2 and the 3200 mAh battery gives me 36 hrs of usage on abuse mode - Always on WiFi, 1 hr of Music streaming, avg daily talk time of 5 hrs.
at the new price, Z2 makes better sense than Z3. in fact, Z3 comes with a 3100 mAh battery.
To me Z2 styling looks better than Z3.
I'm thoroughly impressed with the battery life and lest I forget, the Camera. I have reduced using DSLR's now as the Z2 camera gives me the Bokeh effect I would get from DSLR's.
Not so enthused about the call sound quality though. quite avg there.

Yes, Z3 is a very minor upgrade.

How does it manage that ? Does it do focus stacking ?

Yes, I am happy with CM 11 both on my 1s and Tab 3. Please visit xda developers website and search for Mi3 ROMs.
Nexus 5 16 GB is available on Amazon for 23.5K, with 10% cash back if you use AMEX, looks like a sweet deal.
My friend installed CM11 on the Redmi 1S. However, he is having trouble (a known issue I guess) with encrypting emails - which is required by our company. Any idea if there is a fix?
