Anyone tried the latest Redmi OTA update released a few days ago ? There are reports of better memory usage but faster battery drain, so I'm not sure if I should install it. |

Are you both talking about the 500MB+ update?
I did not install it since majority of options were not needed/used by my better half.
Anyone here using the Panasonic T31 (Black)? How is the battery life? This is for someone who is planning to use it purely as a phone (Calls + SMS), not planning to activate Facebook or WhatsApp on it? How long will the battery last?
Hi speed demon, Gokrish & BHp Maniac,
Thanks for all the inputs.
I have uninstalled "Clean Sweep", "DU Booster" and "DU Battery Saver" from the phone and you guys were right.
The phone is much faster now and the battery - which I was ready to dump - is also lasting a bit longer (about 10 hours) which as it is more than a year old is not too bad - I've been told.
Gokrish, reading your post was like Greek and Latin to me. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Need a crash course in Android phones.:)
Anyway, Thanks guys. The phone is performing much better so I will just leave it like this.
Kind Regards,
SS
How is the after sales support set up of Xiomi? Planning to experiment with the Redmi 1S after finding it difficult to narrow down on a budget smartphone.
I have a question about the Moto E. It's a dual SIM phone. If only one SIM is used, then is the User Interaction more difficult than using a single SIM phone - i.e. for doing stuff, do you have everytime chose which SIM etc. Or can you insert 1 SIM, set it as the default and forget it - i.e. after doing this will it will behave like a single SIM Phone?

I'm using the Moto G with only one sim in the phone. Never faced an issue!

Why worry about support? You have 1 year warranty anyway. So, till then, everything should be ok. After that, even if you throw it away and buy a new one, it's still better than getting stuck with outdated hardware available for double its price.
Regardless, I heard that service for Xiaomi will be outsourced to the likes of HCL and TVS. It's a good brand to bet your money on ( considering the progress they have achieved in China ). The CEO of this company is popularly known as the Steve Jobs of China. And he has ex-employees of Motorola, Google and Microsoft working under him.
PS: Personally, I would opt for Android one ( Spice ) or Moto E though. The reasons being
- I like the stock android interface better than the MIUI one given on Xiaomi phones.
- The guaranteed and fast updates on stock android phones. Android ones will be among the first phones to receive the Android L.
- The Android one version of Spice and Moto E feels more ergonomic on the hand.
Apart from these 3 reasons, there is no reason to avoid Redmi 1s. It beats every other phone under 10k hands down as far as hardware and performance is considered. ( Asus Xenphone 5 would have been a good buy if it had a better battery. And Xenphone 4 has a poor display. Hence, both these phones are not in the list of favourites )

If you insert only one SIM, then yes it will behave like a single SIM phone.:)
The phone will even hide the 2nd(not used) SIM's signal strength indicator.

I know it's a strange question, but the reason I asked was that around 3-4 years back I had a 2 SIM feature phone where I had choose for each and every call & SMS which SIM I wanted to use (even though I had only 1 SIM). I sold off the phone at half rate after 2 months.
Anyway, I ordered the Moto E today - the description on flipkart says "The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a splash guard to render the phone durable. It also has an anti-smudge coating that makes it perfect for everyday use." Does this mean I don't need a scratchguard or is it something else?
It's personal preference, really. Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant, that does not mean it won't crack or shatter. So you can put a screen guard on, but that wont make all that much of a difference IMO. Scratches it might resist, but the screen will still shatter.
The anti smudge coating does work, it reduces the amount of greasy fingerprints on the screen. :)
"Xiaomi is also selling 25,000 units of Mi 3 smartphone tomorrow, the phone will however will only be offered to the consumers, who have tried to buy it as a part of five or more flash sales but were unsuccessful. Flipkart will be informing such consumers today, letting them know that MI 3 will automatically be added into their carts on October 6."
Anybody here who has registered 5 times and already got the MI3? Can help me to get MI3 in this sale? Kindly pm me.
I just ordered a 2013 Moto X from flipkart for 18k, courtesy the big billion day sale. But it says that the adapter will not be included in the package. How does this work? Isn't it a sealed package with all the contents (handset, adapter, USB cable, etc) inside? Do you get boxes without the charging adapter too? Now I'm worried it might be some replacement piece that they're selling.

I don't think they are skipping charging adapter, it may be the nano slim slot ejection adapter or something else. Did you confirm what adapter they are talking about?

May be they are from another country/location where the flat type chargers are used and hence, they might have removed just the adapter/charger. The USB cable is present as it is. This is just a guess by me.
