Lame question. Is there an update out for S2? Mine is running 2.3.3. If yes, how do i get the update? I am still on stock ROM. I haven't even rooted the phone yet

Basically i want to know if i can just download the latest maps and use it with the older ndrive app that's already licensed.

You can't do that. The easiest way is ti uninstall the 2010 version and install the latest one ie 2011 version. It's available on ipmart-forum

can someone please start a non- SG android thread, please?
For us people who are using less proliferative brands.

nothing against samsung users, but man have you guys helped samsung's bottomline.
:)

the SGS2 is the best phone out there man...
Samsung has help us more than we have helped them.

@Mayankk

SGS2 to be precise :). We still like to discuss about other Android phones, but are just excited to use the new Roms for SGS2.

I remember few of us requesting to open a new thread for SGS2.

To be honest, Android is the favorite platform for malware writers. 60% of all mobile malware is targeted towards Android (2011).

I attended a session conducted by the VP of McAfee US, a couple of days ago. He showed some examples of apps that seem very friendly, but in reality they steal your personal data and send off to servers in China etc.

One example, an app that gives you call recording feature. The app does that alright, but it saves those files and sends to a server in China. The recording app would be able to extract credit card information from your voice, and save those as text and then send them to the malware author. If you use IVR, then it would record what you have punched in and send that to the author.

The best part is the permissions that seem legitimate are more than enough for the app to steal and send information. So, just looking at the permissions will not give any clues to the true damage potential of the application.
He also showed some apps which can steal your contact details and send them off to someone.

Android is very popular and hence the best target!

More apps that you download translates to higher risk.

Very valid points. One should be always watchful while installing apps - very popular apps can be relatively safer, I always look at the ratings and feedback of an app before installing it. If I still have my doubts, I prevent that app from touching my EDGE or Wifi:

You get added advantage that ads won't appear in them!

A little playing around with Brut has resulted in me having a big smile. This, after suffering the idiosyncracies of Ndrive. Bye bye ndrive, i will soon have you uninstalled. And to think you were the reason i bought LG O1.

Thanks a lot clevermax. Your help in getting a newbie like me upto speed with Brut is much appreciated!!

One question though - how do i add a way point while searching for directions from A to B; ie, directions for A to B via C.

Thanks much guys.

Would you mind sharing me a link from where I can download the Brut maps?

I use Optimus One which runs on 2.3.3. :)

[APPMOD][07.11.10] Brut Google Maps 4.6.0.4686-brut17 - xda-developers

I used "maps4.6.0.4686-brut-renamed.apk" - probably the safest option among those listed there.

My device did act funny after installing brut (freezing multiple times, etc). But regained composure after uninstalling all Google Maps Updates. Now its a spring chicken :)

Thanks for replying, and sorry for the ignorant answer I am about to give..

The firmware file was downloaded from samfirmware.com and had only one tar file. I just used that one file to upgrade though odin.

Does the radio have to be updated seperately? What should I do now?

My problem is exactly the same as this guys

I suggest you try again, reset your to factory setting and install it again. You could install the file from the below link, it's a single install file that can install through Odin.
Strongly suggest to go through the instructions first.

Since you got a "single file" option, it is possible that "modem" (that is the radio firmware) file too was included in the upgrade.

As pointed out - clear the cache and do a factory reset after ROM upgrade.

I haven't bothered to update my brut Maps from 4.6 yet. Is there a 5.10 Maps with turn by turn navigation which works? I have Google Maps 5.10 installed but navigation is not available in it.

Is there any way to revert back to the old Android Market? I'm not able to download the applications using the new android market! :Frustrati

I uninstalled the updates using the 'Applications' option under Settings. But, the android market gets updated on its own! :Frustrati

PS: I use an unrooted LG P500 running on 2.3.3.
