HP and Sony DVD writers are good and cost around 3,500Rs
I dunno - seems a but expensive to me - my liteon was around 2500 10 months back and a friend (who's a complete geek and checks up heavily on any item he picks up - has an opteron based system) who just bought a sony - (maybe the 810) got it for around 2600.

The benq's and liteons can be had for around 2300 in delhi....

maybe prices are abit lower here.

Most of the Sony DVD Writers are OEM Optorite or Lite-On. The 810 is a OEM Benq DW1640. Though Lite-On writers are hugely popular worldwide, Bombay dealers steer customers away from them quoting support issues. My friends using Lite-On drives have quoted mixed results.

Check out Pioneer and NEC drives as well. They are supposed to be really good. BenQ is also a very good choice. I would stay away from Samsung/LG. If you have the money, go for Plextor. There's nothing better.

Cheers
