ASUS has a good DVD Writer. The cost might be around 2200(I dont know for sure).
As far as the hard drive is concerned, buy the biggest you can afford.the price difference between the 80 GB and 120 GB is not significant compared to the added storage gain. (2500(80G) - 3500(120G))

Sony is good.. AVOID samsung drives..
you may go for the 1 with the maximum warranty since problems usualy start creeping up after 1-2 years..
Price depends on the brand 3500-5500

About HDs.. I have the seagate 120 GB 7200.. Very good.. Current price around 3000-3500

Been using Sony DVD writer for a while now and its pretty good. Avoid Samsung drives and HDD as much as possible-my two cents though.

SEAGATE
80 gb 7200 = 2300
120 gb 7200 = 3200
160 gb 7200 = 3500

I would avoid a Sony DVD writer. They are just rebadged Liteon writers, they are not very highly rated by those that burn lots of discs. Litone writers used to have a lot of problems.

The burners choice are Pioneer and NEC drives.

As for hard drives avoid Maxtor and go for the biggest 7200 HD you can afford. If Seagate still offer a 5 year warranty go for a Seagate.
