Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

I found Indica to have a good thigh support, but a long drive to Ooty gave me a slight back ache. Tried the same Ooty trip in Figo, though its thigh support is not comparable to the Indica's, I did not feel ANY back pain and felt much less fatigue too.

I like to push the Figo's 75% of the way back, the seat height all the way up, and have a neck pillow. Just perfect.

However I did feel more comfortable sitting in the Swift though I didn't do any long drives in a Swift yet.

Any idea which hatches offer adjustable lumbar support? Is it only Vista?

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

Since you have a back problem, why not buy a car with great ride quality & ergonomics, then customise the seat to your exact preferences? Any competent seat specialist can alter the cushioning / bolstering of an existing seat to give you supreme comfort & back support. I'd say it would cost you a max of Rs. 5,000 at a good seat shop. Ride quality & Ergonomics, I can understand, as they aren't easy to change. But a seat is! Choosing a car based on its seat is like buying a car because you like the sound system.

Voted for the Swift. These days when I take it out over the Vento, the difference in seating position could not be more stark!

Wow, Swift is definitely popular!! I always thought that it just had a really good engine, design and good handling, didnt know that the seats were that good! But is the suspension as pliant as the others?

@gto I did consider that option of replacing the front seats or make it customized for my ohc. But now i was actually thinking of buying a new car with the overall package ,i.e it should just not only have a good seat but the whole feel of the car through your driving seat should be comfortable. So driving ergonomics, seat comfort, nvh level (especially in a diesel) ...all these matter to provide u a stressfree ride!

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

I would say, the Ritz. It has an excellent lumbar and thigh support, though I find it a bit lacking on the side support, but that's not at all annoying.

Also the tall boy design ensures that you walk into the car rather than crouch. After the ritz my brother's polo feels a bit of a squeeze to get into, though it has got excellent front seats too.

I keep the back straight whilst sitting and absolutely love the way the Ritz head restraint naturally supports my head.

I agree! Ritz has an excellent driving seat. But in my opinion Swift is better (by small margin).

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

Even I wanted to buy a vehicle with a good driver's seat since I travel long distance at least 4 times a month.

The ANHC didn't actually live upto the expectation on that front, so I tried something else: hit the gym and started doing back related exercises. Voila! the pain disappeared and now I dont feel so sore and tired after the same drive.

Just trying to say that do get the best seats possible, but do explore the other options of getting rid of the pain as well

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

You should go for a variant with seat height adjustment.

I drive a Figo & i feel that the seat height adj definitely helps in finding a comfortable seating position.

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

Save for Fabia/Jazz, I have driven rest of the Cars listed above and my vote would go for Swift.

The bolstering, seat cushioning, width is almost perfect. I find Figo's and GP's seats almost the same.

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

Hi Fastraj,
I have a jazz, and I am comfortable with it in daily regular runs. On long drives,I do two things. Take out my purse from back pocket and also keep a folded towel low down"poor mans lumbar support!" . Try some yoga exercises and maintain good posture in your work time,it will give good relief to your backache.

@noopster,thanks.I had an eye on vento petrol AT,now from your valuable coments,I would think twice

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

The Swift may have an excellent front seat, but its certainly not kind on bad backs given its harsh ride quality.
For a bad back, Figo is what I would go with.

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

I think this is a flawed survey, where is Vista on the list? With the best thigh support and adjustable lumbar support, i think its one of the best options out there!

Re: Hatchback with the best driving seat!!!

I have voted here for Fabia, simply for the reason that I have been driving mine for last 8 months & have done about 15k kms with it.
The results of such polls are often 'unrealistic' as IMO, the respective sales figure of the particular vehicle obviously reflects in voting for it.

I am very happy with the driving seat of Fabia, it's height adjustable with appropriate thigh support as well. I have done long stretches like 300- 400 kms so many times, without getting out of it. In fact, in the first month of the purchase; I did Bengluroo, Chennai, Mysore trip (2.5K kms in 4 days) without any substitute driver!!
