A bit pricey deal, would prefer buying the Discovery 4 instead! It should have been at least cheaper by 3 lakhs anything above 55 is not worth it. Cant help it as the vehicle is a CBU. Not expecting it to get popular among buyers in any way. God save the premium range of VW!

It is pricey no doubt, but if you are comparing it to the LR disco 4, you will not believe me, but it is for 82lakhs on road delhi.

The new touareg will not find many buyers an if some one is actually planning to buy it, well, DON'T!! It's just not worth the price and you will have huge bills starting second year of ownership

Completely agree, my friend's touareg started giving problems just after 2.3 years of ownership and his car had just clocked 10k. He just sold his car and bought the XF-R a couple of months ago. The re-sale value too wasn't good. He just got 22 lakhs for his car.

22lakhs is a good price, i might be selling mine at a similar price. I have spent bucket loads to keep it running till now.
Its a really good car, i want to keep it, if only someone could actually get down to fixing it. I send it to the workshop, they return it to me in the same condition (or sometimes worse) with a huge bill obviously.

Re: 2011 Touareg Spotted In Pune !

What seems to be the problems with the new Touareg? It can't be just exorbitant service-bills!

Your other options in the niche SUV segment would be the Q7 / Q5, the Cayenne and perhaps the Volvo XC60 / XC90. I can't imagine any of these being cheap to run / maintain.

It's going to be only a matter of time before VW begin to offer some tasty discounts on the Touareg so if one's really interested in it, waiting a bit would be a good idea.

It's not just the price of owning/running, it is the dis-comfort of owning a so called "premium" VW vehicle. They just want to target mass market with their polos an ventos etc. there is no doubt the products are really good, i also bought a polo and i don't have a problem paying the bills because it is a good car and i do get service.

But for my touareg, they told me they dont have the skilled technician in for today, and they will call him only when there is a touareg or a pheaton that beeds to be serviced. No inventory, no parts or even a trained technician is available to service their premium cars.

I love my touareg, i will still call it better than an audi Q7 or the likes. It drives better, it looks better and it's also much more comfortable. I drive it everyday and people get surprised when they look at the odo, it has clockef 70k already,i drive it that much. But there have been cases when i wasn't able to drive because it was in the workshop for a regular sevice and the car was returned in 15days. Yes, all it needed was oil change, proper checkup and a few filters. You don't even want to know how long i waited when they had to change the suspension.

Overall bro, the cars you mentioned have the exclusivity tag to it! Just a few days back I was out with some of my buddies and they called a phaeton Passat. Now, see the price difference and the products! Volkswagen now doesn't have that exclusivity which it had before. I would any day buy a Audi or a Merc it may not be as fun to drive as a VW but at least people would know that its Audi or Merc and at that price point I want that exclusivity.

That's too bad VSD. But good to know that you're enjoying the car overall.

I know what you mean!

When you spend 70 lakhs (road tax + insurance + reg..) you'd expect some exclusivity in the product you buy.

But to be honest with you, if I had that kind of money to buy a SUV, I'd definitely consider the Touareg. There's something about its 'no-nonsense' and straight-forward design that appeals to me. It also looks inconspicuous and I like that in a car. Not that I don't like to draw attention, but I'm the sort of bloke who likes simpler designs. In a way, I'd prefer the lack of attention.

Re: 2011 Touareg Spotted In Pune !

Since the Q5, Q7 and Cayenne are based on the Toureg, am curious to know why only the Toureg is the more problematic of the lot ?

Have experienced VW service, I would spend a bit more on a Merc or BMW for better service and competency!

The touareg isn't the only one with problems, audis/bentleys/skodas have all the exact same issues too.
The engine manifold will most definitely fail and you will find a yellow engine malfunction light in your odo. The same problem had popped in the superb as well, the previous gen 3.0 tdi model specifically. Bentleys too suffer with the same issue. Going by the trend, it just feels that the problem is within the VW engines itself.
They all suffer with rattling issues too which is mostly because of our roads, but the BMW's and Mercs have still handled it better than the VW group vehicles.

In India however VW is the worst of the lot as they just couldn't care less about the buyer of the touareg/phaeton. Why? Because how many of them are there anyways.

Re: 2011 Touareg Spotted. EDIT : Launched at 58.5 Lakhs

I thought Touareg is cheaper compared to Q7 and Cayenne with not a big difference mechanically and is value for money.
Since I own an Vento, having made 8 visits to service in 18 months, I can understand the irritability part
