I think the post is getting mixed up here, please read my post - my reply was in context of the Elantra CRDI at 9.5 being compared with the Fiesta TDCI. To me thats like comparing a Corolla with a Fiesta SXI (well over 2 lakhs more than the SXI and with a bigger engine and more goodies)

Also, its the Base Elantra PETROL at 6.99 why compare it with a Diesel? And your comment about 110 bhp was for the Diesel, not the petrol so lets stop mixing things up ?

Okay, things are getting mixed up.
My point
1. 6.99 Lakh is a better value than ford 1.6 top end
2. Diesel costs 9.5, *if* hyundai comes up with a GT for crdi too it may retail at 8L, then it will be competition for Fiesta!

To think that I would've gone in for the Elantra CRDi if they'd lowered the price by 50k.............apart from the low rear seating (albeit compensated to a SMALL extent by more legroom) there's very little to find fault with it as a good diesel sedan.

The point is, the 6.99 version scores over the SXI only in terms of sheer power and interior space if I'm not mistaken; other than that does it have much more? Besides, why would you say Hyundai have reached this stage of having to downgrade price to such an extent in this car?

Sheer bhp figures prove nothing conclusively...........

Accent is already loosing it's grip day by day in the competition. Moreover Elantra was not doing great numbers, hence it is a wise decision from Hyundai to place it's base version at 6.99(Ex-showroom).

Forget lancer, forget baleno, forget NHC, Forget Optra 1.6

Its Elantra which takes the Best VFM crown. Shows how much money hyundai was forcing from your pockets until now though.

Elantra at 6.99L is truly tempting offer, most of the people will divert from city, fiesta, baleno to Elantra. you cant compare with Optra 1.8 which is the best car in its class . Elantra 1.8 can target 1.5/1.6 custmers only with price reduction.

Elantra is no where in the world in the same league of a civic or corolloa or optra.
It belongs to C segment!

Really? If you read the Top Gear Feb edtion you will see a
Cedia vs Corolla vs Elantra shootout
Verdict
1. Cedia
2. Elantra
3. Corolla.

Heck, for less than 9L you get a traction control system with ABS, Airbags, Climate control..
