Dude you bought a car for 9 lakhs and are now cribbing over 8-9 kmpl avg you are getting to 10-11 kmpl avg you want. Why did you opt for optra if you cant bear the cost of running? You could have gone for City imo, it would have met your expectations.

Stock replacement filter wont affect the warranty.

It will cost around 4 k n marginal increase in fe and power.

Please do not do that to a new car and that too something costing 9L.
It might save you some money, but then it screws the fun out of driving and you are killing a nice car. I did it to my M800 and that remains the stupidest thing I ever did in my life to-date. The car that was a dream to drive, turned into something like a dud.
I am not an expert on engine-tuning and related stuff. But, I guess it should be possible to tune the engine for FE (instead of performance) and once your pocket money increases or you start earning, get it re-tuned to normal settings. Don't know how it works with the cars of today.

Frankly, I am surprised that you went ahead and bought a car without doing some basic homework like knowing what your needs are, your limitations etc. What are all the guys here at TBHP for ? All you needed to do was ask, buddy ?

You are not entirely wrong, satya. Changing the driving style could surely improve the FE. Being light-footed, avoiding jack rabbit starts and sudden braking, anticipating braking, switching off the engine if wait time is going to be more than 1 minute etc can go a long way in improving the FE.
