Just Chill. Run her in and dont expect good FE till Oils change to ELF at 2nd service that is 10K.

Run her in well.

The best way to measure FE is to fill the tank till the auto cut off from the pump, reset your trip meter to zero or note the odo reading. Drive normally till the tank is only half full (Better if it is almost at the Empty mark).Fill again preferably from the same pump till auto cut off and divide the total no. of kms travelled with the fuel put in the 2nd time.

HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS AND IT HELPS YOU !!!!!

The New VGIS will give 11 kmpl and for that the car has to be have an oil change to smoother one.

Buddy any car unless and until has the oil changed then only returns better FE. Running is till 1000kms and then then first service. Drive the way you like after that but please expect better FE only after 10k. Not only for Optra it stands true for all cars. Because the oil in new cars are hard and it burns very badly and is changed only at 10k for all cars.

Mine gives pretty much the same average right now , around 7-8ish. The dealer said it should go up to around 9-9.5 in city traffic, after the second service.

Busa, I don't think it can give 11, though if it could, I'd be a happy man. If yours does, then I'd appreciate some tips from you.

JK, I guess Optra's not your cup of tea, but seriously, I don't hold the FE against the car. It's completely worth it.

Busa, it has less to do with Oil change than initial high friction and lack of lubrication of the various moving parts.

Mine gives 7.5 - 8.0 but then its a 1.8 and it doesnot have VGIS and a bit of spirited driving. If you dont pull the car above 2k RPM and dont hit speeds in excess of 80kmph ( which is difficult) then i am sure you will get 11kmpl with ease. People doing that have got 12-13 and some people in the mileage run got even 26kmpl from a Optra.(Time to call the OD GUYS )

Typical Indian psychology..

Thats happens in Honda Cars and many other comapanies which have service at 5k intervals to make money. Chevvy has service in 10K gaps and not 5k and its same for the Fords as well..

I am not surprised.
A guy in my apartment has an Optra LS (1.6L) and he gets around 8kmpl in city with a/c. One reason for the low FE could be the extra 200 odd kgs in weight (when compared to a Baleno 1.6 having an FE of 12kmpl). Ofcourse, the weight could add to the safety and ride comfort. But for those out there who are conscious about FE, this is not the car.

After running-in and doing a few thousand kms, it could increase a bit, though.
