Re: Mitsubishi Mirage rumoured to be headed to India!

Quote:
Mitsubishi is a name in India that isn’t synonymous with small cars. However, come 2016, that perception of the Japanese manufacturer is set to change. At the launch of the Pajero Sport automatic, Mitsubishi confirmed that it has big plans for the Indian market post the end of its contract with Hindustan Motors in 2015. Mitsubishi said that it plans to bring in new SUVs next year while its bread and butter models will come in starting 2016. While the names of the SUVs weren’t disclosed, Mitsubishi did reveal the names of the other smaller models – the Attrage and the Mirage.

After its contract with Hindustan Motors ends, Mitsubishi will make Tamil Nadu its manufacturing hub where both the Mirage and Attrage will be manufactured. The company also plans to expand its dealer network in India by the end of 2015. However, looking at how the goal posts have moved with advancements in the hatchback and sedan segment in India since Mitsubishi announced its plans, the Japanese company may be swimming against the tide.
Quite understandable for them to wait till the contract with HM expires and that is happening in 2015.

Mirage to launch in India under the Renault- Mitsubishi alliance?

Now that Nissan has acquired 34 percent stake in Mitsubishi Motors in a 2.2 billion deal, the company’s focus will be on addressing the markets like India where the potential is really huge.

If the company decides to bring in to India, it could be the new-generation model of the hatchback which might go on sale globally next year.Would take on Maruti Suzuki's Swift in the B hatch segment.

If the launch takes place, this will be the 3rd "Micra" on road after the original Micra and the Pulse

Sir, Signing a deal is one thing and getting it on the roads is another.
Even with Renault/Nissan sales wing do they have the infra to generate the volumes to take on Swift?
This might at best be another marginal player and will die a quiet death couple of years post its launch.

Did anyone think Renault can take a bite at Alto numbers, ever?! Even the mighty Hyundai couldn't! It's all about having a good product at the right price. You never know, if they bring the car under Renault badge with a good styling & a great price.

Though it would be better for Nissan to lunch the Lancer and SUVs from Mitsubishi stables as they are the signature of that brand, but provided the very nature of Japanese business houses towards change (or lack of it) I think they would stick to Mirage kind considering the cost of production to be low.

However even if they bring in the ample numbers of "kei" cars available to Japanese markets that may create am entire market over here. May be it would create an entire segment where currently Nano is the single man standing.

These small cars attract some type of a tax breaks as well as some parking relaxations is what I remember reading some time back, which is the reason why they are popular in Japan. But even though these look like they are in the Nano bracket, these are quite expensive and packed with goodies and technology and I doubt if they can be sold here at the Nano price range.

You need to have a parking place in your name to buy a car in Japan, whereas if you want to buy a "kei", you won’t.

Regarding goodies, even the coming soon x-trail won’t be having all the goodies that is available to Japanese market. So of course, no frills versions of those with brilliant 600 cc petrol engines and frugal engineering may bring some interest here. Even could be better to have them than some laws like odd-even numbers or 1 car 1 family.
