Re: Toyota Camry, Etios Motor Racing & more : Auto Expo 2012

I registered for it, but like whats the cost associated? And do I really need a go-karting license at other licenses issued by FMSCI?

From the information available on the site you don't need any license, at least yet. Bhpian from the VW Polo cup could be contacted for better information around this.

The TMRC executive mailed me this spreadsheet detailing the expense and award structure. It's quite a bit cheaper than the Polo Cup. No info about any external sponsorship.

Toyota Camry Launch Date - August 2012?

Today , I just spoke to Grace Toyota and Galaxy Toyota in South Delhi and they have confirmed it to me that the new Toyota Camry will be launched on 13th August.

It is priced around 20 lacs. However they have not been able to confirm whether it is the top most version which is priced at 20 lacs or otherwise. It seems that the dealers also have started accepting the bookings.

Does anybody have any inkling about the same ?

re: Toyota Camry Launch Date - August 2012?

Well, thanks for the info, this is one of the two new launches I am looking forward to, the other being the new Elantra. If it comes at 20L, and as it has been already revealed that there is only A/T, then the price is quite OK by me too- after all, you have to pay similar for a Sonata AT or an Accord, and the Superb is only marginally cheaper.

This is the car to watch out for in the D2 segment. If American trends are any indication and a 21-23L price tag, this car should sell well. She's boring but oh so reliable like other Toyotas. For an upgrade, I'll have a tough time choosing between this, the Accord (Honda India's in trouble) and an equivalent Euro car.

20lac? Cant be IMHO! Anyway it would be a CBU or so. The 'base' version costs 24lac OTR @ N Delhi now.

Repeatedly in ACI it was mentioned that this camry would be CKD and then final assembly would take place in India, just like Fortuner. So Rs. 20 lakh does seem to be a possibility, may be for the lower variant. But in that segment, even lower variant is likely to get reasonably good features. Adding taxes, etc. the OTR for the variant would be around Rs. 22 lakh OTR.

Thats bang on in Fortuner territory. But would be a better deal than what we are getting right now in Camry.

re: Toyota Camry Launch Date - August 2012?

Who is going to buy a Petrol Sedan returning 6.5-7km/l ? I don't understand why toyota is launching this car in india ? The new Sonata is a stunner and yet i have never seen one on Delhi's roads ! The Accord is available at a huge disc and the majority of Superb sales are diesel.

re: Toyota Camry Launch Date - August 2012?

My brother bought the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid for $26,000.

Toyota Camry, Etios Motor Racing & more : Auto Expo 2012-532684_455744427786927_1689858666_n.jpg

The comparable non-hybrid model costs $22,000 - so that's just a $4,000 premium for the hybrid model. I wonder if US government subsidizes hybrid cars. If there are no subsidies as such, makes sense for Toyota to bring the hybrid model here in India, no?

re: Toyota Camry Launch Date - August 2012?

The camry will be assembled in the Plant 2 where the Etios sedan, Liva and Altis are being assembled.

The camry will be a CKD. No paint shop activities for the Camry. All the parts arrive from the mother plant (Believe its Japan, will confirm this piece) including the body parts (that are already painted). The production plan is 4 units per shift. With the 2 shifts running for 25 days, the planned monthly output is 200 units.

Expect this to be priced a shade under 20 lacs. However, for this car to really rake up that 200 units or more they need to price this around 18 lacs.
