re: Petrol price hiked by Rs. 7.50. EDIT 1st March 2013 : Up by Rs. 1.4

In punjab petrol is now Rs 80.68! Why is diesel @ Rs 40.61 only when internationally there is no big difference in cost?

Firstly price increase can be affected in minor increments every month rather than one big shot in six months.

State tax on petrol which is as high as 30.2% (including surcharge)in Punjab should be reduced to 10-12% uniformly across India. (petrol is not a luxury item!)

Diesel subsidy should be abolished, you can compensate state transport corporation by providing cheap diesel.

Compensate public by increasing DA for public sector employees and direct transfer for others.

LPG price can be raised by Rs 200 and a cap on no of cylinders like 6 cylinder per year to prevent misuse.

P.S. Beat D sales should see a boost!

The Central govt have received so much flak for the petrol price hike that now it has started asking the state govts to reduce the taxes as a saving grace.

Petrol price hike: Congress asks its states to cut tax - IBNLive.com -

What about the states where there is no Cong govt, will they continue to protest?

re: Petrol price hiked by Rs. 7.50. EDIT 1st March 2013 : Up by Rs. 1.4

At this rate anyone going to buy a Petrol car will be under IT dept security. As to how in the hell they have made India, was this person able to afford a Petrol car?

Dear govt, Please from next time send the cops to collect payments directly from the houses of middle class man. Why this sham of democracy?

Dear "AAM AADMI". Please consider filing a PIL in SC regarding this. If you can make life miserable for the Diesel car owners too who escaped this, they why not? Let the party begin.

Guys, forget the spreadsheet for calculating the break-even of Diesel car. Go for Diesel car instead of Petrol. Trust the incompetence of the Govt, and not the competence.

Good news FIAT. God/Govt saved you again. Might just stop selling cars and concentrate on coming up with a DIY on replacing a Petrol engine with a MJD.

End of rant.

They don't need to see any boost, the number of Diesel vehicles in Punjab is overwhelmingly high to begin with. People are actually wide eyed when you tell them you drive a petrol sedan.

As you correctly mentioned, the price difference is now simply ridiculous. But since the financial situation of the state is so grim, besides the traditional vote bank of akali dal usually doesn't touch petrol vehicles with a barge pole, so don't expected any positive step to be taken anytime soon

If you double-price diesel at say 70 Rs. for private cars and 45 Rs. for trucks, the truck driver will tank up at a bunk for 200 litres, then come out and start selling those 200 litres in black at say 60 Rs. per litre (still making 15 Rs. per litre)! This strategy is not going to work, at least not in India. Else, this could have been implemented long ago I guess.
why not put a premium on diesel vehicle/LMV like cars, suvs, muvs etc. so, you pay it when you buy it and with this money they can subsidize the diesel.

..!
simply abolish all the 3-4 state owned oil companies and make one state owned oil company to save adminstrative, marketing cost and pass that to customers.

and these MLAs, MPs, minsters should not be given any petrol quota they should fill their convoys as common people do. giving 750lts per month free is pure absurdity, stupidity.

The cost of India's MPs | Features | Governance

they are getting so much(in 2010 one MP cost 57L pa.! and i was taught and thought they are public servants!) and all tax free. why they cannot buy their own petrol/diesel?

Yes, I completely agree that Punjab is a diesel country, but there are some like us who drive petrol cars and countless two wheel drivers too! Anyway this is a national problem and something needs to be done soon. You can rationalise a Rs 10-15 difference but Rs 40 difference (100%) over diesel is way too much particularly when petrol engine efficiency is much lower.

Beat diesel is the cheapest diesel hatch with max mileage, apart from Indica,so it should naturally get some share from those shifting from petrol hatches to diesel.

re: Petrol price hiked by Rs. 7.50. EDIT 1st March 2013 : Up by Rs. 1.4

Its time to start 'Petrol' Loan along with Car Loan for who ever is buying a Pertol car.

The govt and opposition parties will carry on with this for a couple of days. When some other useless issue crops up (or govt can create one to divert attention), they will fight over that and forget about the pertol hike.

True. That is the option that everyone thought the govt. would take up during the 2012 budget but the plan was put off. That is a much cleaner option than double pricing, which is prone to misuse like what I mentioned.

What is the intention of the govt. then? Tax petrol-users like crazy, hence promoting them to look at diesel cars. Then prevent them from buying diesel cars by introducing high taxes to the tune of 1L extra. In the end, we are left to choose between getting taxed at 1 shot (diesel), or endure continuous torture each time we go to the bunk (petrol).

Why can't they reduce taxes and VAT on petrol and compensate by some other method?

Offtopic, but related though: Petrol vehicle sales and resale value of petrol vehicles is going to touch a new low.

Not sure about this but definitely car manufacturers will start selling petrol cars with offers of tankful during delivery. The cars sales will be based on who give the max petrol with the car.

I hope govt starts the austerity measures of petrol entitlement to the public servants to esp the babus, MLA, MP's.

I have 3 petrol cars (including a Nano) and my monthly costs would shoot through the sky. Cannot sell the cars as some still have some EMI's left on them!

Though seriously considering Beat D/ Premier Rio D (Mjd)/Mini Xylo.

Dont take such knee jerk reactions.

Prices of diesel will rise as well, without any doubt. Wait and watch.

re: Petrol price hiked by Rs. 7.50. EDIT 1st March 2013 : Up by Rs. 1.4

The day is not far when the market for new and used petrol cars would have effectively died.
Demand for diesel cars is going to shoot up, get prepared for a 12-15 month wait for Swift dzire diesel or other diesel cars. We are going back to the license raj and good old bajaj scooter days. Very regressive move by the powers in charge.

And announcing: The useless opposition party has called for a one day bandh on 31st May to protest the petrol hike. The loss from one day's bandh will run into hundreds of crores. When will they learn.. Boy :-(
