The Chennai plant assembles the 3, 5, X1, X5 and the MINI Countryman which will soon be followed by the 1 Series.:thumbs up

I don't think the X5 is CKD. The X3 is as well as the 730Ld
Isn't the X1 from the 1 series? That's assembled here already right? Which models are they planning on bringing now?

X1 is from their SUV series and the 1 series what is going to be launched is the sedan series.

The BMW AG website has 1 series in the hatchback (3 door and 5 door version) and 1 series Coupe and Convertible.
I guess they may launch the coupe version with a detuned engine may be.
Petrol Engines: 120i (170 hp and 210Nm)
Diesel Engines: There are 118d (143hp and 300Nm), 120d (177 hp and 350Nm) and 123d (204 hp and 400Nm)

I feel they will be looking at the regular 5-door option for India, and the engine picks from 116i/118i with 136bhp/170bhp in petrol and 116d/118d/120d with 116bhp/143bhp/184bhp respectively in the diesel.

May be they will redesign the 3 series and get it with the following engines and make it the 1 series.
May be a shorter version if the 3 series.

Sorry, I did not understand what you are trying to say.
Why do they need to redesign something and make it a 1 series? The 1 is an existing model. All they need is to start selling that car in India.

The 1 series currently is a hatchback and that will launch in India. There are rumors of a 1 series sedan (much like the Audi A3 sedan which has already been announced and showcased by Audi) which is being developed by BMW, but nothing official yet.
The crucial part, Pricing. 3 series is at 24K Pounds in UK and inr 40L in India(3 owners correct me if i am wrong)
1 Series is at 19K pounds in UK and roughly 31L INR.
BMW may need to use max localization for this to make an affordable luxury.
