New Suzuki Swift Sport concept to debut in Tokyo Motor show.

The all-new Swift is expected to debut at the Geneva show next March, this sports concept will preview it as the highlight of Suzuki’s stand in Tokyo this year.

Suzuki is planning a surprise for October's Tokyo motor show in the form of Swift Sport Concept, which employs lines from the next-generation model and adds a strong dose of the rally-inspired aggression.

Boasting a body more than 1.8 metres wide and a generous sprinkling of edgy aero parts, the concept will be powered by the new 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 'Booster Jet' turbo technology

The powerplant will be further boosted by a hybrid unit featuring the company’s ‘S-Energy’ system, which employs large-capacity lithium-ion batteries to boost power and allow for zero-emissions electric-only cruising.

The Swift concept will also get a revised version of the Twin Clutch System (TCS) currently seen in the UK-spec SX-4 S-Cross 4WD.

Maruti may advance Gujarat plant by 3-6 months, new plant to be home for next generation Swift and Dzire - expected in 2017.

After the YRA- New Baleno, the new generation Swift and Swift Dzire, codenamed YSD, which offers healthy margins to the company, is also likely to be produced at Gujarat.

Apart from the new factory, Maruti's bread-and-butter model Swift and Dzire will also get a makeover, powered by an all-new 1.5 litre Suzuki diesel engine at the heart.

Hope they don't plonk that 1.5L diesel engine in the S-Cross too.

If they do hopefully it is near the characteristics of the 1.6L MJD. Maruti engineers know how to tune the car and give it appropriate gearing to keep it peppy but still that hooliganism should be retained else it is a damper for me especially.

The next-gen 2016 Maruti-Suzuki Swift will be based on the Baleno platform, according to IAB. The car is already in it's development phase and will have it's global premiere in Q2 2016.

A person in the know told Indian Autos Blog that Maruti and parent company Suzuki follow a typical 5-6 year lifecycle with the Swift, and that the new generation model will soon commence its global testing program.

The source confirmed that the new Swift will ride on the ‘New generation platform’ which makes its debut on the Baleno this month. This platform, which promises better crash protection, uses up to 41 percent of tensile steel for its construction, which also saves plenty of kilograms.

One person who has seen the design of the new Swift says that the “design DNA is unaltered” in comparison to the current model, which itself is an evolution over the 2004 model.
