Mercedes-Benz has launched the GL 63 AMG in India at a price of INR 1.66 Crore (Ex-showroom Mumbai).



High Points:

• The GL 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5L V8 Bi-Turbo engine producing 550 BHP of power & 760 Nm of torque mated to the AMG SpeedShiftPlus 7G-Tronic gearbox.
• 0-100 kmph is achieved in 4.9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph. Three driving modes: C - controlled efficiency, S - sports & M - manual.
• Airmatic suspension package, special damper struts, automatic level control & adaptive damping system included. Also gets active curve system for roll stabilization.
• Harman Kardon music system with 14 speakers.
• The GL 63 AMG gets 3 year unlimited kilometers warranty with an option for the 4th year extended warranty through their star care plus programme.
• Mercedes says that a new product would be launched every month or two in this financial year.
• Mercedes currently has 64 outlets located in 35 Indian cities.

Exterior:

AMG body kit with front and rear apron.


For those who don't mind taking a INR 1.66 Crore car off the road, have a look at the ground clearance.




Aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs, get illumination too.




Two big chrome slats on the front grille, unlike the regular GL, these have a chrome + black finish.


Closer look at the bi-xenon headlamps. Has 5 modes & the adaptive highbeam assist ensures optimum headlamp range without dazzling the oncoming traffic.


Fin attachments on the hood. Functional too, aids with air-flow.


21" 5-twin spoke titanium grey finished alloy wheels.


The mouth, which will accept only high octane fuel.


Twin exhaust pipes on either sides, total of 4 loud-speakers.




XL sized panoramic sunroof.


The AMG engine is a V8, while the regular GL is a 3.0L V6 (Diesel).

Interiors:

Dark interior theme in the AMG variant unlike the beige in the regular GL.


4-spoke AMG steering wheel in black nappa leather.




Wooden trim on the dashboard. Center console is identical to the regular GL.


Rotary knobs for the climate control, with individual settings for driver & front passenger.


Gear stalk is mounted on the steering wheel, on the RHS. Makes way for some storage space on the center console.


AMG sports seats at the front.


The door-pad has a host of controls including the electronic adjustments for the driver seat.


Closer look at the ambient lighting.


Only A, B & D (dead pedal); no C.




2nd row seats can be reclined at a comfortable angle.


Climate control settings for the 2nd row passengers.


Two 20.3 cm Harman Kardon screens on either of the front headrests.


The third row bench seats.


Third row seats can be folded or made upright by these buttons adjacent to the LHS 2nd row door.


Closer look at the boot space, parcel tray is retractable.


Spare wheel and tools placed under the boot floor.

No organ-type accelerator pedal unlike other high end cars?

Interiors look so comforting that I can spend an entire month in there driving around (provided the fuel and car is sponsored :P )

The regular GL has optional black interiors too. Also, the rear seats have about 15-20 degrees of adjustment, front seats are wayyy more comfortable than the rear. However, I bet this car must sound like a symphony of power!

Spent half a month travelling in the regular GL, and I can tell you, its totally worth it. And the GL trip was only my 2nd really long journey, before it all the experience I had at long journeys was from my uncle's old Alto.

2500kms on the GL felt like relaxing on a beach watching really hi-def tv compared to the 1100km long hell in the Alto.

Hello Bhpians,

So I just picked my GL63 AMG on the 8th of this month. Finally got it after 23 days of waiting. I was lucky because the car that was on the ship had the specs that I wanted, so didn't have to wait for the usual waiting period. Its been with me only two days so I haven't really clicked any pictures, but I'm attaching few with this post. This thing is a real monster and the burble of the V8 is lovely. It handles really well keeping in mind its 2.7 tonnes of weight and the ride quality is amazing too because of the long wheelbase, even though the suspension is on the harder side. Sport + makes the suspension really hard and the car becomes really flat on cornering, which is quite impressive. I can't say much right now because i've only driven for 2 days. Will update you guys once I put some more kms on it. All I can say right now is that it sounds really good and the acceleration is amazing for such a heavy car, brakes a really good too.

The car is Diamond white with Designo maroon interiors. Its going to be seen a lot in Gurgaon, Delhi and Chandigarh.

Thanks. I will post a review whenever I can. Considered the RR Sport Autobiography Supercharged, but found it to be a lot smaller and I might get the RR Autobiography Supercharged in future so got this. Will post a exhaust video soon.

Congrats on your purchase , somehow infrastructure at Joshi does not justify selling such premium products

Considered the RR Sport Autobiography Supercharged, but found it to be a lot smaller and I might get the RR Autobiography Supercharged

Thanks . Yeah their showroom is not in very good condition but they plan to open the new one soon.

I had once considered getting the Toyota Tundra TRD supercharged at one point. But the hassle of converting, importing and service etc. stopped me from going for it. I would import one for sure if they start manufacturing it in RHD. Love that truck.

The Prado is a keeper. So I'm never going to sell it, keeping in mind it's not available with the 4 litre V6 petrol anymore in India.
