re: Hyundai Eon to get 1.0 liter Kappa Engine EDIT: Now launched (Page 3)

Isn't Hyundai copying Maruti with 1.0 Liter engine for Eon? Alto is best seller and has 2 engine options, 0.8 & 1.0 Liter. Eon also following the same thing now.

Had this happened reverse way, people would have said MUL is copying Hyundai. But when others do it nobody complains, strange. Isn't it?

Who cares as to who is copying whom. What matters is that buyer gets another choice and the Eon package now is much more attractive.

Hyundai could have done wonders with the Eon. If they had sold it with the Santro 1.1L engine and offered the 4 speed AT in the Eon, it would have given the Alto, A-star, Estilo a very tough fight. Instead Hyundai played it safe so that i10 and Santro are not cannibalised and downgraded the Eon engine to the measly 800cc 3 cylinder one.

Even though this new 1.0L engine is 3 pot, it has been getting very positive reviews in UK. Infact in the new 2014 i10, media is recommending this 1.0L 68bhp engine over the 1.2L Kappa2 engine.

Imitation is the best form of flattery.

Hyundai has been consistently stabbing at Alto in all the recent Eon advertisements. If Maruti's advertising team has enough creative minds, we should see Hyundai on the back foot in the Eon-Alto advertising war soon enough.

Just like Tata leveraged Maruti's price cut before the Indica launch to its advantage, Maruti can easily use the launch of Eon 1.0L as an example of how Maruti is pushing even other manufacturers to give more choices to the customers.

Not really. Hyundai has had this engine for a few years and offered it only in Europe. Only now its coming to India.

Right now is that golden era for 3 cyls.

Peugeot, Renault, VW, Ford, Opel, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi all offer them in the 1.0 - 1.2 L range (all newly released)

Good to know the 1L 3 pot is a very competent engine. Any idea whether they have an AT box for this Kappa 2 engine? A toned down fluidic styling + AT will see the Eon moving tremendous volume. And if they add the essential safety kit, Hyundai has a ready buyer in me.

Thanks for pulling this and sharing with us RSR. Its high time we get them as standard on each variant.

As per today's Hindu Newspaper, Hyundai has started accepting bookings for Eon with 1 liter engine.

re: Hyundai Eon to get 1.0 liter Kappa Engine EDIT: Now launched (Page 3)

Instead of buying Eon with 1.0 liter engine, i guess buying Santro or old i10 makes more sense. Eon with 1.0 Liter engine will anyways cost for 4+ Lacs on road. Then why not buy bigger car only? Eon looks weird & design looks overdone in some areas. Santro or i10 makes more sense to me instead of this car. Let's see how it does in the market.

The EON is really a good car. And the 1.0 l engine has just made it more competitive. Hope to sales rising and overtaking maruti suzuki in the segment.

No! they didnt do this!

" According to our sources, the 1.0-litre Eon is only available in one mid-spec Magna variant. Features available include an air-con, power steering, and front power windows. In addition to this, the Eon 1.0-litre gets an immobilizer, keyless entry and 13-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers. There is no music-system provided in the Eon 1.0 Magna variant.

The Eon comes with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder motor, most likely the same one used in the European-spec Hyundai i10. In the European car, the engine makes 65bhp and 9.7kgm of torque in that car. There are no styling changes on this version of the Eon in comparison.

Hyundai has priced the 1.0-litre Eon Magna at Rs 3.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the metallic shade version.

re: Hyundai Eon to get 1.0 liter Kappa Engine EDIT: Now launched (Page 3)

At this price, one can expect discounts in Eon to continue especially considering that the i10 1.1 has and now even the Grand has started (very minor though).

Though considering that this is just 25k expensive than the K10 is very assuring, the K10 also has significant discounts.

The magna+ variant that comes with 1.0 doesn't feature a music system.

re: Hyundai Eon to get 1.0 liter Kappa Engine EDIT: Now launched (Page 3)

Has anyone had a chance to take the 1.0 for a test drive? The 1.0 engine in the i10 has been highly rated for its refinement in the UK reviews. Does the engine transplant sort out the shaky vibrating gear lever experience of the smaller engined version?

Re: Hyundai Eon to get 1.0 liter Kappa Engine EDIT: Now launched (Page 3)

At 20000 ex-showroom odd more you can get the Celerio VXI which though spartan is slightly better loaded than the Eon.

In isolation the Celerio MT is expensive but in comparison with Eon it is much better value.
As suggested earlier no way the Eon 1.0 is gonna sell without 25k+ discounts.

With the Alto now coming with the 1 liter k10B (hopefully), it is going to be way more fuel efficient ( somewhat cheaper) than the Eon and the Eon will lose out another battle.
