In fact Toyota being a professional firm has already admitted that Hyundai's growth is a cause for worry for them. There was a special report which came in "Detroit News" some time back. For those who have not seen can have it below:

http://detnews.com/2005/specialrepor...A01-182019.htm

Its a big report so better to read on the website than posting it here.

This is for the year 2005. The rankings have changed slightly in 2006 - the Koreans are allegedly in 5th place now. I say allegedly because I have only read news reports - no hard figures are available for free.

thanks for the figures. Gives a more accurate picture. Is there a particular link you followed? I would like to see the sales of manufacturers outside of the top 10 too.

LOL, I remember that word to word. The best thing was Han's pronounciation of the word Hyundai. The current Tiburon sure is no where near the eclipses, mustangs and 350's. Lets hope the new one has all the blood.

Ferrari,Lamborghini and Porsche are not in the top100 list.
So, does that make them an inferior car manufacturer...NO WAY!!
The above top 10 shows the sales & marketing capabilities of a company...of course a little about their cars too.

PS:I'm yet to watch FnF:Tokyo Drift :(

Nitrous, agree 100% with you. Those companies which make 4-wheelers are in the top sales list. Those who make CARS dont worry about figures, but profit. Sales are generated by GM not on the c'vette but a cobalt and G6 ponty.

The front grill of the verna also has its roots leading to the Aston Martin DB9's. It has been tampered with a bit though...

Remember reading somewhere a couple of years back that the Koreans are doing to the Japanese, what the Japanese did to the Americans. The observation was w.r.t the Japanese motor-cycles - taking the Harley's, Indians etc, the Japanese brought out better, cheaper bikes which went on to become very popular. The scene seems to have shifted totally to the east now, though the battle-grounds are spread the world over.

btw, the new santa-fe's grille looks very familiar - the previous gen Nissan Maxima.

just this morning, coming back from church, i noticed a car swerve in front of me from a bye lane, i swore it was an accord. the closer i got i still thought it was an accord. but when i passed him, i could read that it was the new sonata. c'mon guys, even their name is lifted from honda. honda..hyunda(i). right ? and the shapes of their cars, till date look nothing but funny, even after copying. can anyone digest the santro of 99/00 ? i mean, our autos look good, if they are good looking. and look at the instrument panel, all flowery shapes & looking stupid.

From interacting with a few Koreans, I got the sense that hyundai is rather an anglicised version of what goes something like this:

Hae Yoon Dae !

Doesn't that resemble a propah Korean name now ?

Come on dude, dont care a sonata to a cls! Maybe it does look similar to you because of the headlamps swooping upwards, this is a mercedes trait that hyundai copied. The sonatas headlights are a cheap rip-off the c-class.
