Look..Hyundai's a copy cat!!

Guys just apply your mind to the so called Hyundai infamous plagiarism attitude..

1. Came the Sonata which had its design almost lifted from Jaguar.

2. Sonata Embera - An absolute bootleg and very much in line to the new Honda accord

3. Tucson - Am sure many will agree that the rear of a Tucson is appealing, but the fact of the matter is that they Stole it again from Holden captiva.Though the latter scores in all front.

Is Hyundai deprived of design engineers? Or is does it just speak of its photocopying approach??

This has been discussed many time before so do we need a whole new thread to discuss this. Hyundia maybe a copy cat but there are many cars which look alike so we just cant blame them.

All cars do have almost same components, shape and sizes. Now if they look alike, what's the deal? They can't put wings on the roof after all.

Hyundai design engineers are pretty smart and simply don't want to re-invent the wheel! LOL!

Hyundai is not a premium brand anywhere in the world. We cant expect Koreans to spend billions on design. Especially after the arrest of its CEO.

I mean that's like asking the Chinese to stop buying pirated DVD's.

Who ever said that. Hyundai is Toyotas biggest threat and worlds sixth largest manufacturer. Now can anyone tell me who are the rest in the top 10. 1. GM, 2. Toyota, 6. Hyundai, what about the rest?

Its true that hyundai is not a premium brand.

but to beat toyota one doesnt need to be a premium brand.

GM
Toyota
Ford
D.Chrysler
Nissan
Honda
Hyundai-kia

I dont know about the rest but vw, fiat and renault may make the tail

Hyundai is growing too fast, while it copies designs, such an act is expected from a new comer( If I remember around 30 years). but that doesnt mean its making bad cars. quality is jumping leaps and bounds. My guess is that by 2010 hyundai cars would be considered among the top league.

Hyundai / Korean companies have always aped Japanese industry since the end of the 2nd World War. Zooming out slightly further, the main reason for lack of an original Korean indeginous company is their unruly labour compared to the vastly more productive Japanese.

And Hyundai being a by-product of the Korean rebuilding after the 2nd World War has always chosen to adopt the easier route by copying an orignial bestseller. This practice continues to this day. Where the Koreans have pulled up their socks to an extent is in engineering a vehicle. A Korean car of 2006 is infinitely better engineered than a Korean car from even 2000. I doubt their design skills will ever match their progress in engineering.

Look at the wheels on an Elantra. They're knocked off the previous gen Porsche 911.

They just love copying, If you would have read one of the Overdrive Issues which showcased how Hyundai Santro Copied the Wagon R in Japan, the rear end was the same as Wagon R there, after it came here, they changed it.

The Sonata is a Mix is The Accord on the rear, and The Audi A6/A8 in front, the lights and the grill, very similar, I personally feel it looks really good on our roads for the pricetag, but a copy is a copy

Ranking Automaker 2005 Global Sales

1 General Motors 8,381,805

2 Toyota Motor Corp. 8,120,000

3 Ford Motor Co. 6,208,700

4 Volkswagen AG 5,242,793

5 DaimlerChrysler AG 4,854,700

6 Hyundai-Kia Auto Group 3,715,095

7 Nissan Motor Co. 3,597,748

8 PSA/Peugeot-Citroen SA 3,390,000

9 Honda Motor Co. 3,365,000

10 Renault SA 2,533,428

This is for the year 2005. The rankings have changed slightly in 2006 - the Koreans are allegedly in 5th place now. I say allegedly because I have only read news reports - no hard figures are available for free.

So if Hyundai sells more cars globally than Honda....and has a competitor to the Corolla, Camry and most bread earners to Toyota...who do you think the Japanese giant is watching closer?
