Please ignore if your post was in a lighter vein, but if not I suppose these are merely dummy lights usually used in test mules for various reasons ranging from unsourced parts to hiding the design.

Why does the rear looks odd ? Some how it gives a impression of a pick up . Is it the nexon or SWB tata xenon ?

The rear's been camouflaged with additional material to hide the profile/shape...

The headlamp and tail lamps of a new vehicle are one of the longest lead time items, taking close to 2 yrs from styling freeze to final production readiness. As such, they are never available for first build of the vehicle (an engineering / design prototype). At this stage of development, manufacturers simply use circular or rectangular commercially available lamps for functionality. Prototype lamps generally become available at the next stage of production prototyping. Final product is available at pre-production trial stage onwards.

Going by the looks of it, the Osprey is atleast an year away from production. This is a typical design proto.

Diesel spotted testing on the Pune-Goa Highway

Quote:
The Nexon spotted here is awkward with roof design at first. However, closer looks reveals it could have a roof cargo box as a permanent thing. The box, that too, is mounted in a position, which isn’t its usual place. The box mounted is on top of the tailgate and not the roof. Side profile is properly high stanced one and does look like a compact SUV, which is going to be sub four meter one. Tata has camoflauged car so thoroughly that it has stuck tail-lamps and head-lamps from the last century to make sure the original one’s are not caught with spy lenses. They could be the real one’s too, without the cowl, you never know it’s too early to comment which has just begun testing a few weeks back and is going to last a year atleast.

The diesel engine was confirmed under the hood after it was caught emitting black smoke multiple times while accelerating and on a steep hill.

at the mention of Roof top box. I am pretty sure it is camouflage to hide the roof line. Should give an award for the guys who comes up with creative sensationalism like this

I am quite impressed by the GC. Should be around 190mm at least? Hope the body roll is well controlled.

Have to agree that I may not be the roof carrier; TATA has taken the camouflage to a new level with this vehicle. Never seen anyone going to this extent before. This definitely builds a lot of expectations about the vehicle.

re: The Tata Nexon, now launched at Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Looks to be retaining most of design from the concept shown at Auto Expo 2014. The side profile looks very similar to concept if you ignore the roof/carrier mount.

Wondering what engines this will get? Zest's or Zica's or something new? At the time of 2014 Auto expo, rumors were that this would get 3-cylinder engines.

Except that the concept looked cool without the B pillar and the spy shots make it look like some Vista on stilts. Roof line looks totally weird for an SUV in my humble opinion.

Um, the concept does have a B-Pillar. You can kind of see it, just there, behind the A-pillar.

It's supposed to be based on the Zica, not the Vista platform. You can see by the door-lines that it's true. Smart move by Tata to use a modern platform as the base, thereby removing excess baggage at the initial stages itself. And one thing the Zica has got right is the correct track compared to the body. All the Tata cars so far, from the Indica to the Bolt, have had too-narrow tracks with too-wide bodies, giving them a tall, unstable stance, often with claddings that amplify the effect. The wheels are always too far inside the body, taking away all the aggression from the stance. The Zica and the Osprey don't seem to be suffering from that problem.

And the roof-line is not visible yet, so I don't see how it can be weird unless you're referring to the camouflage. If it's anything like the Nexon concept in the pic above, it looks very contemporary and 'Mini-Evoque' might be an apt description

I think it's based on the X1 platform(Vista/Bolt/Zest). The thread title says that and so do most other websites/magazines.

That having being said, I do agree with you, personally can't really see any resemblance to the Vista - certainly not under all that camo!

Pratap Bose confirms Nexon production would be very much like the prototype showcased in Auto Expo 2014 reports IAB

Quote:

Tata Motors’ plan of introducing the production Tata Nexon within 24 months of its Auto Expo 2014 showcase is still “more or less” on, Mr. Pratap Bose, Head of design of Tata Motors told Indian Autos Blog.
When asked about the production-ready sub-4m crossover, Mr. Bose said –

We want it to be a show-stopper. It has to be outstanding. We were told that we’re late in getting into that market, but even if we’re late, we’ll redefine this segment. If you look at the market, some take a large product and try to compact it. But we’re not doing that. Right from the beginning we’ve designed it for 3,995 mm. The Nexon will redefine the segment.

Spyshots have shown Nexon prototypes on test, and the overall design appears to closely match the Auto Expo concept. According to Mr. Bose, the production Nexon will “stay true to the concept car”, such that when people see it, they “can’t tell the difference”, he said.

Obviously, the Nexon will ditch its suicide doors favoring conventional hinges, but the designer hinted that the product will look modern and attractive rather than butch and old-school, a design language chosen by some competitors.

Sources say that Tata will showcase a production-ready version at the forthcoming Auto Expo 2016, which is scheduled in the first week of February 2016. However, a launch is expected towards the second half of this year.

If the production car will be close to concept ,I think Tata will have the most unique looking car . Hope this product helps Tata motors to renew their image in car buyers mind . All the best Tata motors. Will be great to see the production version of this concept in auto expo .
