I firmly believe and I hope others do too that the ultimate responsibility of our and our loved ones safety rests with us.
So I don't believe in putting the onus on manufacturers or government to do the babysitting for me.
Manufacturers have given seat belts and airbags. It's upto us to make proper and informed use of the same.
If knowingly I place my child in the middle seat then the risk is entirely mine.
Similar is the case of two wheeler riders who wear helmets but don't strap it on. Whom are they cheating? The traffic cops? They are cheating themselves.
Others may have their opinions but these are my beliefs.

IMO TUV and KUV are two extremes. XUV and KUV share similar design philosophy

@ shashanka

Why are you taking it personally, I have highlighted what I didn't like in the car. I cannot overlook the negatives of a car just because it comes with ABS as standard.
Safety is critical and now every manufacturers are waking up to that fact and hence we will be seeing most of the new cars being launched with all safety features as standard. So I say this is no big deal as ABS and Airbags will be made mandatory in a few months.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

Happen to see a KUV showcased at R City Mall, Ghatkopar West, Mumbai this weekend. One has to admit that this is a quirky design. In fact, the car on showcase had all the accessories attached. And believe me, the car looked gaudy and seemed overdone in terms of designing. I was just wished that the car had lesser of the design elements. So many design elements that you end up not appreciating any.

In the inside, other than the various features already being discussed, the plastic used seems to be at par with the segment. The middle seat on the front bench is a joke. An adult cant fit in their legs and an active child will run a high probability of hitting the gear knob even without an accident. The rear bench doesnt seem to have enough space and so does the boot.

But one thing that I liked was the placement of the gear. If one turns the middle front seat, it changes into a superb arm rest. And trust me, the positioning of the arm rest along with the very comfortably placed gear is a delight to use. The gear throws are pretty small and hence, one actually does not need to move the arm a lot for any of the gears.

Could not take the test drive, hence, cant comment on the engine performance. All in all, KUV is loud, quirky, gaudy, peculiar. But, my gut feel is that it would be a success with the customer segment the car is targeted at, ie, the youth.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

Yesterday we visited Zulaika motors here in chennai. We went there to TD the TUV but the TD was not available and we got to see the KUV there. I would say irrespective of how it looks (it looks somewhere between average to ugly) it has loads of people got interested in it and the crowd was like ants around jaggery.

Things I liked :

1. Interiors : Not impressive but very much above average I would rate it better than usual maruti cars and slightly below Hyundai.
2. Comfort : The passenger seats are very comfy, though the cabin is not airy due to the concealed portion of the window (to accommodate the door handle in Beat style), it was not claustrophobic and three people can sit very comfortably.
3. Driver seat and driving position is very good, gear nob is dash mounted I liked it but not sure if everyone will like it, but gear operation is super smooth.

Thinks I did not like :

1. Design : it looks like conjoined twin of two different cars, the front and rear are not going together at all.
2. Driver seat is good but small, for 6 footers this seat will be puny.

Well, since you have botched up on a premium offering, does that mean that you can repeat the same mistake on other models as well ? Poor logic in that is what I see. It shows the professionalism that M&M employs !

@ shashanka

Well, the ride quality is poor through rough patches, that's what the ad shows, when the OEM is pushing this steroid-hatch as a young SUV ! As I have said above, others' in capabilities doesn't glorify your product with similar qualities !

Point taken, you can ONLY see ABS+EBD in the KUV. IMO, if these were offered on an eRickshaw, it would also make sense !

Has anyone taken delivery of this vehicle. I saw a youtube video () showing delivery of vehicle somewhere in Kerala. As per Zuleikha motors in chennai they are yet to receive their first lot of vehicles for customer delivery. Any other dealers in any other place started delivering these already?

Good to see a EcoSport owner testing the KUV as both of them in some ways do compete in the similar space (at least the mind space of a mini SUV) though there might be really not much of a comparison in many areas.

As another EcoSport owner and in the same boat of adding a second motor (albeit a little while later) would be interesting to know how it compares between the two.

Looks like KUV is doing good numbers

Quote:
Dealers across the country inform us that the current waiting period for the KUV100, which was close to two weeks, has now soared up to as much as six weeks in some cities. This is the case for both the KUV100 petrol and diesel models. In some cities, the waiting period for white and silver-coloured models is as high as eight weeks.

While KUV100 should not be compared to the Ecosport, these are some aspects I noticed in the short test drive. KUV100 is similar to the Ecosport in only having a relative upright seating. The comparison ends there as the Ford is miles ahead in its built quality, space and comfort of the seats. The front seats are small in the KUV and don't offer too much lateral support. KUV100 has a softer ride compared to the Ecosport which is definitely firm. And diesel engine clatter was lesser than the Ecosport at idle, I felt. But as the rpm increases, the Ford is better post 1700- 1800 as a kind of smoothness sets in. The KUV felt uniform even as the rpms increased, but there were no excessive vibrations or clatter. No sudden surge in power, but adequate.

In my mind I was comparing it more with the Suzuki hatchbacks like Celerio and Ritz, of which I had taken test drives the week before. In my subjective opinion, KUV felt better built.

Another point I would add is that while most people have praised the wide armrest (folded seatback) in the 6 seater, I had a little trouble moving the elbow from the steering holding position (I hold the lower part of the wheel, 4 o clock and 8 o clock positions habitually) to the gear changing position. The armrest felt like an obstruction and I felt immediately better with it folded back. Another aspect I disliked was the amount of cabin space taken up by the armrest and it felt like a wide unnecessary barrier between the driver and co passenger. Iam sure a lot of others would find it very comfortable, but I would prefer a smaller but functional armrest.

The white shade and those alloys go well with the car IMO. Have spotted a red one here in Bhubaneswar on the road, couldn't check if that was a petrol or a diesel one though.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

Visited India Garage showroom (Palace Guttahalli, Bangalore) few days ago and took K8 petrol for a test drive.

Me and my brother are over 6 foot tall (Generously built) and felt reasonably comfortable with leg room at the front and back.

I ended up booking K4+ 5 seater Petrol variant.

@ shashanka

I do not think anyone's going overboard. He is within his rights to not like the car that you like and are defending so vehemently. And again what is the big deal with EBD? Almost all modern cars coming with ABS have EBD as standard like a package deal.
