That's quite an abrupt end to this fiasco with a very short statement and no explanations, after all your above confident posts "from a top level person working in Bill Forges, India."

Please explain more as I am really curious now.

Mahindra drops an email on the axle matter:

Quote:
There is no issue with engine, transmission and drive shaft. There is no stoppage of deliveries and no recall planned.

Sandeep Dhond
Vice President – Customer Care, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd.
And a statement from Bill Forge:

Quote:
In response to the comment posted by Mr.Karthick_P at 17:11 hours on 1 February 2016 (page no.29) on “Mahindra Unveils KUV100 Compact SUV” topic under “The Indian Car Scene”, I would like to clarify that Bill Forge has not received any axle shaft of KUV100 from Mahindra as failure or for ‘a complete redesign’ as claimed by Mr.Karthick. I would also like to clarify that Bill Forge does not design / redesign / manufacture axle shafts.

Anil Haridass, Managing Director, Bill Forge Pvt. Ltd.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

As already stated by quite a few people here, Mahindra has played it cleverly by marketing it as a SUV and not a hatchback. I got a gist of this through a recent experience and I believe inferences from it can be extrapolated to the overall Indian market to a fair degree.

I was talking with a girl over coffee and a topic on automobiles sprang up.

She: Mahindra has launched a new SUV recently. KUV. We are thinking of checking it out.
Me: It's not an SUV.
She: No, no. Just look at it. It looks like an SUV. It's a tall car. And why else will Mahindra call it an SUV if it's not.

KUV will sell. So will Brezza.

Forget what the car aficionado says about the odd KUV 100, the bean counters are definitely happy

Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra has firmed up plans to scale up production of its newly launched micro SUV KUV100 by more than 50%, citing strong demand from buyers.
Quote:
"We have received over 110,000 inquiries for KUV100 since launch. Three months of production is reflected in current bookings and we are receiving 450-500 orders every day. We will scale up production to 8,500 units per month over the next few months," CEO (automotive division) Pravin Shah said. The company's plan was to produce around 5,500 units a month. It has a combined annual capacity to produce 110,000 units of the XUV500 and KUV100 at present.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

I saw my first KUV100 on the road today.
I ve seen them in the Airports before since they've got a campaign on with displays at Bengaluru and Bombay both (which I ve seen).

Lovely looking car/baby SUV/ Jeep replacement.

I am going to check this out seriously and look at the absolute TOP SPEC variant tomorrow or so at some nearby M&M Dealership.

Because quite honestly, Im looking at a replacement for my parents 2 year old I20 Asta.

If the KUV 100 meets my requirement spec then certainly this is a vehicle worth considering.

Provided of course it comes with all the necessary space, versatility, bells and whistles that I want the folks to get.

The main thing that attracts me right now is the stance and high ground clearance. I need to get to know more about this vehicle for sure.

Looking for a Minimum of
1.Dual Airbags.
2. ABS/EBD (if possible)
3. High seating position and comfort getting in and out (which I think it has judging by these pictures on the road and what I ve seen)
4. As much safety kit as possible.
5. Reasonably powered petrol engine - I want it to have enough juice to overtake on highways which the I20 1.2 L Petrol clearly lacks. (I don't know the engine sizes yet but I want to check.)
6. Other gizmos like Bluetooth Phone, Music player (CD + USB)
7. Reverse Camera and so on.
8. AT (which I don't think it has right now)
Im just wondering because I don't yet have the full specs with me.
9. Good build quality overall etc

But this seems to be a very functional and nice looking crossover type of car.

1.Dual Airbags. - YES
2. ABS/EBD (if possible)- YES
3. High seating position and comfort getting in and out (which I think it has judging by these pictures on the road and what I ve seen) - YES. But it might be little too high for short person to easily get it.
4. As much safety kit as possible.- YES
5. Reasonably powered petrol engine - I want it to have enough juice to overtake on highways which the I20 1.2 L Petrol clearly lacks. (I don't know the engine sizes yet but I want to check.)- YES, but the car loses steam after 120.
6. Other gizmos like Bluetooth Phone, Music player (CD + USB) - YES
7. Reverse Camera and so on.- No. Can be added as accessory only
8. AT (which I don't think it has right now)
Im just wondering because I don't yet have the full specs with me. - NO
9. Good build quality overall etc- YES

Shankar, I am in the same shoes. I need a car for my parents & family with a chauffeur. [when I am not around & I can't do the chauffeur duty]

I was looking forward to buy the Wagon R only because it had the best ingress egress for under 7L [my budget]

Happened to TD the KUV 100 5 seater in petrol and I think for my usage, it might be a more accomplished alternative than the Wagon R. The ride/handling is better, infact it is quite good, would ask you to have a TD. Space is decent as well, the place where it loses is, the rear seats don't fold and form a flat floor. The GB was nice too, no rubbery feel either. Didn't feel as a M&M GB. I think I am impressed. I am waiting for verdict to be out on its FE as the car will see extreme commutes in peak hour traffic. I didn't want a wide car else would have gone for a Jazz. If the FE of petrol is 15+ with AC in commutes, then I would go for petrol, else diesel. Running isn't much, maybe max 500 kms a month.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

Thanks msk-kapoor and sheel

Yes, it is a nice vehicle. I saw it in one of the malls today.
Feels nice and solid.
I like the gear stick sitting up there in front - easy to slot in. (A little like how it was a long time ago in the MM540 (new generation of 1995)
If this is to be considered only the 5 seater petrol will be suitable for our needs too.
I don't mind it running out of juice at 120 - my Dad rarely goes above 100.
I need to see how it behaves in comparison to the Hyundai I 20...

Ive asked my folks to take a view of this vehicle too - the one thing sadly, that it lacks, irrespective of the version, is the Passenger Seat height adjustment.

However, it does have an almost flat folding rear seat - one pulls up the seat squab and rolls it up against the back area of the front seats and then puts the rear seat back rest down. It is pretty roomy.

Im also wishing that they come in with at least an AMT like they have in the TUV.
And I think it will enjoy having a larger set of rims and fatter tyres on it rather than the stock OEM stuff they have given...

It deserves 15 inch rims instead of those puny 14 inches. And the Tyres should be bigger than those 185's. At least 195's if not 205's are what I'd have liked - but of course, I ll bow to the experts when it comes to this.

I am in the same frame of mind. Our old 1st gen Honda City was being used to ferry our kids to school ( by our driver) and we decided to replace it with a modern small car. Wagon R and Celerio were on top of our wish list. The AMTs are convenient. But I decided to book the KUV 100. Only wish there was an AMT or proper AT.

If they have managed to offer AMT in the TUV300 then I guess it will only be a matter of time before they offer it in the KUV100 as well.
Its a nice little vehicle overall.
Im particularly pleased about the fact that it has those 2 airbags + ABS + EBD.
I guess asking for Electronic Stability Control etc is asking for too much in such a vehicle but I must say they've done a pretty neat job of shoe-horning a number of good features and facilities into this little vehicle.
While the finish may not be super-top-class, it is pretty decent overall, considering the price. It looks compact and cute too. I like it!

Looks like M&M is quite realistic to the number - they have shipped 3413 units in Jan '16 (Source: Management Punditz), although they launched in mid of Jan. Need to see how it is going to perform in the upcoming months, but going by the general perception and the delay of Zica might proved to be blessing in disguise for M&M.

Re: Mahindra unveils KUV100 compact SUV. EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 4.42 lakh (ex-Pune)

Took delivery of our new KUV100 today evening, grey K8 diesel 5 seater. Initial impressions are very positive. Moves easily in traffic, rides comfortably over our broken Bangalore roads. Engine noise is a little more than what I felt during test drive. Looks much bigger than it is. Comfortably parked in our small parking area. My sister who owns a Ritz wont believe the dimensions are slightly smaller for the KUV except the width. Will update with pics and more in the next few days.
