Well, to me, among the CS brigade, Ameo looks the most pleasing to the eye (my eye!) with the Zest coming in a close second. Add to it the long list of goodies, the awesome 1.5 litre Diesel+7Speed DSG combo.....wow! I may have found a worthy successor to my 6yr old Manza

Will VW's forecast come true?

Starts the Third shift production at Chakan plant. Speculates a high demand for the soon-to-be-launched Ameo compact sedan and the rising exports.

Will VW's forecast come true?

I am only hoping that VW does not get ahead of themselves and expect a sudden spike that GT twins created.

When the GT (TSI was first) was launched, it offered something exquisite in the guise of DSG and TSI engine. With the introduction of the GT TDI, these 2 cars became almost exquisite offerings in the segment, let alone by the manufacturer. A premium manufacturer was giving performance hatches in both Petrol & Diesel guise, at not so 'Un-affordable' prices.

This was almost unheard of in this segment and heck I have even heard some thoughts about the GT TSI like "You can get the same gearbox that is used in Lambos and Porches for 10 lakhs" !!

VW Ameo though, is the last to the party here and has its work cut out. There are some really established cars here and though VW can claim the "Premium" brand, I doubt any modern buyer would buy into that, especially after the infamous emission scandal.

However, Ameo TDI with DSG must be the trump card for VW and if they do play this really well, some of the Polo customers may step up while a couple of Vento folks can step down to this compact sedan.

Has a distinctive road presence when seen from the rear, I would say.

The Volkswagen sub-4m compact sedan is scheduled to be launched by May-end, with deliveries due to commence from July 2016.

- 7 Speed DSG Diesel Gearbox
- ARAI Mileage of about 21-22
- Price of DSG variant not exceeding 10L
- Extend Warranty/Service Package offered by Volkswagen
Give me this and Ameo will be my first non-Maruti car!

Volkswagen to launch Ameo in petrol variant only. Diesel will come later.

The updated 1.5 L diesel, delivering 112hp will debut in Ameo first and then be launched in Vento and Facelifted Rapid.

Ameo has finished its homologation tests but will initially come with only a single engine option, the tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol motor that also does duty in the Volkswagen Polo. This engine is a three-pot unit and churns out 75hp and 110Nm of torque and will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The diesel engine will be the four-cylinder, 1.5-litre EA 189 unit that does duty in VW’s Polo and Vento and the Skoda Rapid. However, this engine is scheduled to get an update soon and VW has decided to directly bring the new version of the engine to the Ameo. The updated EA 189 unit will come with a new turbocharger resulting in a slight bump in power to 112hp and will make its debut in the diesel Ameo

Volkswagen India starts pre launch bookings of Ameo from May 12, 2016.

The bookings will be done during the the multi city roadshow for the car, which the company will organise from May 12 - July 2.

Prospective customers will also be able to access details about the Ameo from the exclusive mobile application or the Volkswagen corporate website. The mobile application will be made available on android as well as iOS platforms.

It comes equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard fitment across variants.

So, finally VW in the league too! Thank god neither the Ameo let me down, I still indulge my perception that grown up hatches with a boot on the derriere are plain UGLY! I don't need to say this looks better from front, rather I would compliment Polo as a whole. That's my personal opinion, but indeed CSs are pets of Mass market, let's wait and watch!

If I really want a VW in my garage, I would settle for the Polo, as the rear leg room is still going to be the same. I would have a much better looking car. Or if I need the boot space, I will save up for a few months and try and get the Vento.

Ameo has nothing special in the already crowded baby sedan segment. Even the best in class ( as per most reviews ) Aspire, is struggling - maybe because of a late entry. Anyway, good luck VW.

Yes, the car still doesn't look that great so I'd rather buy a Polo. But I already have that only yesterday crossed the 90k mark and is still as well built as a TANK.
