Which ever version they choose, Tata should serious start to standardize on child parts. Last few days I have been on the headlamps of my Storme. With a dual barrel, both units have a dust cap. But both caps on the same headlamp are of different sizes.

Stranger - the size is again completely different for the Manza/Vista, the nearest match. Let's not even consider the Indica's.

While Even Maruti has this problem, why cant manufacturers think of such things when they are finalizing the design of these parts ?

Lights (all types) are specification parts, where only styling, performance specs and packaging dimensions are specified by the car manufacturers. The detail design comes from the illumination systems manufacturer. As such, if business for two different models is awarded to different suppliers, standardization of child parts is not possible. As long as the targeted cost level is realised, it doesn't matter either.

When you understand which parts I am refering to, none of the above will hold water. It would actually help them reduce managing the inventory. While Standardising on these parts will not affect the costs, it will actually help them reduce at least 1 process per model. If they start working on more standardisation, more benefits can be gained.

It is a different thing when it comes to performance or precision engineered parts, where things would be model specific.

Is the part you refer to integral to the lights or separate? Why dont you share a photograph? That will aid better understanding.

Sharing a few pictures of my visit to the TATA MOTORS Stall. Went at the closing time, so just a few pictures :

Lot of parts are shared. The infotainment system is shared between the Zest, Bolt, Zica, proposed Hexa and Nexon. All underpinnings are shared between the Storme and the Aria, similarly all underpinnings are same between the Dicor, the Xenon and the earlier Grande. The chassis and suspension components, the drive train and the engines are shared from the Vista, Manza to the current Bolt and Zest. When major components are re used, a rubber cap hardly makes a difference.
