Scoop! Renault patents Grand Scenic MPV for India

Gaadiwaadi reports, via a world exclusive scoop, that Renault India has filed a patent for an all-new MPV for the Indian market.

Scoop! Renault patents Grand Scenic MPV for India-renaultmpvpatentimage.jpg

The patent design borrows trademark Renault design cues from the recently unveiled Megane sedan, the Captur crossover and the all-new Koleos SUVs. It could borrow the 2.0L oil burner heart from the Koleos SUV, which produces 147PS of power and 320Nm of torque.

Likely to be a premium offering and to be placed above the Lodgy MPV, this all-new offering from Renault might be targeting the Toyota Innova, the upcoming Tata Hexa and the under-development Mahindra MPV.

Quote:
Renault has applied patent rights for a new MPV in India and it appears to have latest design cues from the brand. The styling elements seems to have been derived from the latest family of global Renault cars like the new-gen Megane and India-bound Captur compact SUV.

It features signature front fascia, sculpted surfaces with balanced proportions, distinctive C-shaped headlamp cluster, glass roof linking windscreen and rear window alongside four vertical wing-shaped slats housing Renault badge. The Renualt premium MPV could be offered in either seven or optional eight seat configuration with ample cabin room and features.

On the other hand, I think it's the international Scenic MPV, or based on it. See the windowline.

Looks sharp and modern in that picture. People accepted the Duster so Renault can afford to launch a good looking capable MPV too around the 15L mark. Good thing is it will support the 2L motor and not the 1.5L engine they have used in all their other offerings in India.

Finally a good looking MPV from Renault to, hopefully, hit our shores. What a contrast it is from Stodgy Lodgy.
If priced and specced right, Innova could finally face some serious competition now that Renault is pretty well known in our market.

Any idea what this "patent" business is all about? Why even bother patenting a MPV design? But before that, can a car design be patented in India?

If yes, then I wonder why Chrysler Jeep is tolerating some of Mahindra's designs (TUV 300, Thar etc).

Right. Thanks. Missed the "Grand".

Noted this MPV as soon as it launched internationally, thanks to the unique design. Renault sure has given it some nice touches to hide the bulk of this car. Doesn't really look like it has this much of space of the inside.

Toyota moving the Innova up to premium prices has given more confidence for other manufacturers towards this segment IMO.

Lovely looking car that could be a potential Innova challenger, (I know too many have come and gone) but is it a body on frame chassis to take take the rough treatment that Innovas usually take? Frankly I don't think it will matter if its priced sensibly and has all the features and power.

The more important question would be, will this be manufactured here, or will it be a CKD or CBU.
That is what will decide its price and its fate

Of course, the design looks lovely!

Nice catch!

The Grand Scenic is quite a looker, inside out. And a very capable 7-seater to boot. Scheduled to hit French showrooms by mid-October.

Since they have quite confidently snatched away some of the Alto's near-monopolised market, I bet Renault is bullish on the Grand Scenic's chances against the Toyota Innova.

Quote:
The petrol engines include a 1.2-liter TCe, which comes with either 115 PS (113 HP) or 130 PS (128 HP) mated exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox. Kicking off the diesel range is the dCi 95 PS (94 HP), it is also mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while the dCi 110 PS (108 HP), dCi 130 PS (128 HP) and dCi 160 PS (158 HP) can be had, depending on the selection made, with either the six-speed manual, six-speed dual-clutch automatic or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Yes - most certainly a good looker. As I said before, with the right ingredients of price and specs it will definitely give Innova a real run and even maybe force them to start rationalising prices.
Looks like Renault is betting big in India what with the Kwid range, the (hopefully) upcoming Kaptur and Grand Scenic: it surely has the potential to give sleepless nights to the market leaders.

Just a few days back Renault's Scenic received the highest safety ratings in EuroNCAP.
Hope they retain the same structural integrity if at all it is launched here!

Renault are already known to have perfected the ride and suspension for Indian conditions. If this car has the same underpinnings, then this will definitely fly off the shelves.

Looks fantastic! Is it slightly smaller than the Innova in terms of dimensions? In the pictures the Car does look a little smaller and somehow may be dwarfed by the Hexa and the new Innova, if the dimensions are indeed lesser.
