Honda and Toyota both replaced their cars. Dont think that MUL has the capacity to do so in the near future, especially with the launch of SX4 and GV along with Splash in the pipeline.

So makes sense to let it be, provided its selling decent numbers

What about the structural rigidity of the shell itself? Thats not an added feature. But thinking about it,your way, they can sell a strut braced car from the factory!!

Liana would look outdated from the start. Am sure Maruti must have learned a lesson from the Zen Estilo.

please don't even talk about the NHC, it is in no way a replacement for the OHC. And toyota ?? the way you put it, the qualis should never have come to India.

The NHC replaced the OHC, just as the Baleno was replaced by the SX4, yes Qualis should not have come, but Qualis was a amazing vehicle in its own right, check the 2nd hand market and you will know what i mean, highly reliable and excellent people carrier, what ever it is, high time MUL call it a day for the Esteem, enuf

Today it is a buyer's market & not all the buyers think like you. Bottom line is, the damn car sells even if it is outdated by a mile & still VFM over the ikon, accent & the indigo, hence there are no challengers for MUL to seriously consider replacing it.

With all due respect to the Qualis, the Esteem is another amazing vehicle in its own right.

Any other car in its class that has same combination of power/mileage?

The Esteem is a great car that has stood the tests of time and proved itself to be a winner. It is unique in itself and reigns supreme on account of the following:

Performance
Reliability
Low cost of maintenance
Good FE
Styling and design that can match (if not outdo) the latest in the market.

As e_l aptly put it, it is a lot more VFM than the Ikon, Accent or the Indigo. I don’t see any reason why MUL would want to discontinue this model (I agree its been around for a while now) unless it foresees a threat to the above factors from the rest of the competition.

Accept this.
The Esteem is nothing without its G13B engine.
This is the same case with the Accent CRDi too.

The Esteem is 1 car that I have always liked.
We had 2 of them consecutively b/w 1995 & 1999. The 1st one was a stock vehicle. The 2nd one used to be used in rallies, and it had an imported steering system, and Kumho tires that were pretty good. Couple of goodies under the hood. Loved it so much! An acquaintance's driver used to take it for the scheduled maintainence, and on one occassion he rammed the car into a tree. Was driving on the Koramangala Main rd,when a dog ran across his path and he had to swerve.

I really wish they bring back the Esteem, but in a more sporty version. We already have many family/executive style sedans in the market.

I don't quite like the suzuki liana ( Called the Aerio in the US,if i'm not mistaken). Kinda wierd styling.

What if Maruti launches an SX4 lxi.

The Swift vxi is for 4.50

The Esteem vxi is for 5.10

The SX4 vxi is for 6.70

How about an SX4 lxi for around 6? That way a customer wanting a sedan can go in for a basic SX4 or if hes willing to loose the boot, a Swift zxi. Im sure Maruti can use the extra capacity ittl get by discontinuing the Esteem and maybe even the Estilo

However like someone said in this thread, an Esteem with the 1.3 D engine will do wonders in the taxi segment.

Except in this case, Baleno is the newer generation (while Zen is the older generation of the Alto).
