Is the fact that so many manufacturers skipping this show pointing to the fact the organizers arm twisting auto companies for high payments on the stands owing to their fame?? Can the experts give a cost breakdown as to cost to show products at expo vis a vis an ad campaign for say a few months on a new product on the television prime time which has more reach from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarati to Assam.
Also I would like to add that a car purchase is a very well calculated spending for most (not all) so ads and expos only do so much.

The dates for Auto Expo 2018 have been announced. The biennial event is India's largest automotive show and it will be held from February 9-14, 2018 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida.

A regular car manufacturer will spend around 10 crores. This is the total expense including stall construction etc. The mega stalls (like we see with Maruti & Tata) will cost far more.

Can general public visit Expo during business hours by paying extra? Or is it by invitation only?

Curious to know who gets to visit during Business hours.

General public is also allowed to visit in the business hours. The ticket price is higher than general hours.

The new Honda Civic will apparently be launched in 2019. We won't be getting the 1.5-litre turbocharged VTEC petrol motor but the 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces 140 BHP and a 1.6-litre diesel mill with 120 BHP of power (the same engine outputs 158 BHP in the CR-V). The 1.6-litre diesel will also find its way into the Honda CR-V before the Civic.

Maybe Honda plans to showcase the car and see how much interest it generates. Might even prepone the launch. However, we might be getting the facelifted version of the current model, hence the delay.

The dashboard and instrument cluster of the 8th Gen looks way better though.

Hyundai Motor India is planning to showcase an EV sedan, it's new B-segment hatchback which will be the i10's replacement, it's World Rally Championship car and the 2018 i20 facelift at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The Korean carmaker is expected to have an electric vehicle concept on display at the motor show. While no technical details are known as yet, Autocar India can confirm the EV will be a sedan.
Auto Expo 2018 will also mark the debut of Hyundai's new hatchback. The model that is expected to replace the Eon and i10 is internally known as the ‘Hyundai Family Concept’.
The facelifted i20 could also be shown at the Auto Expo 2018 though we understand Hyundai might push back its unveil to later in the year.

Any chances of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AGS & Jimmy launch/showcase?

Looks like we will be going to have the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo with only handful of Automakers marking its presence. As per the latest reports, as many as 32 Automobile manufactures pulled out of the event considering the cost and logistics factor, which would help them shave off cost in the range of 10 crore to 30 crore(estimated).

So what are the probable big launches?

Kia might showcase potential India bound cars. This is I think the biggest draw of the expo.

Mahindra: New MPV, and some electric versions of their existing cars.

Tata does not look like they are launching anything new

Suzuki would showcase the new Swift, probably the refreshed Ertiga.

Hyundai: i20 facelift, surprise could be if they unveil any new car like either the Santro replacement or even the Kona.

Renault: For sure no new launch.

Honda: New civic most probably is the big attraction. Also possible would be HRV.
Doubt if the new gen Amaze or Brio would be even showcased as they are scheduled for 2019, if I am not wrong.

On checking the not-participating list, i get a sense that most of the Motorcycle / Car manufacturers fall in 2 broad categories:
1. Have their own event &/or doing good sales with the usual marketing / consumer reach - Bajaj / KTM, Triumph, Royal Enfield, Harley Davidson, Jaguar LandRover
2. Have floundering strategy / sales and no strategy for revival &/or new launches in 2018 - VW Group, Nissan / Datsun, Ford India, Fiat, Fiat / Jeep, Hyosung, MV Augusta

Am not sure why Volvo Cars isn't going though? They make some great cars that people don't even recall when they are out shopping. Number of dealerships is an altogether different topic anyways.

Norton & MG Motors are probably in far too nascent stage. And with Norton being bought by Kinetic, i doubt it will fare any better than MV Augusta so Kinetic might as well save this money and invest in its ventures!

I don't understand the CV space much but my guess is Volvo & Eicher too don't need this event - they are doing pretty well and i think there is a CV specific event already where they participate?

The new Civic is a brilliant looker, far better than the last one that was launched. But it's a low slung design ( which is a good thing aesthetically ), but the Indian market is under a heavy SUV influence in all segments. Further, I find most urban roads deteriorating in condition ( that's what originally contributed in large measure to this high GC trend ). So Honda will probably do better if they bring in the HRV I feel.
