In what could be a first of its kind, UM announced that it will launch a new cruiser at the Auto Expo - 18, with one major difference, it will be a EV named

UM is expected to reveal its price, specification and other details during the auto expo itself.

I think he is referring to the final version. That is quite possible, he might have given inputs during design and development stages.

The fact that they have hired a race car driver, that too, Narain Karthikeyan, to fine tune the driving dynamics of their cars. And they haven't even let him go near their sports car, which is weird, in my opinion.

I'm not surprised by this, because even Lewis Hamilton,who helped Mercedes to develop AMG Project one,hadn't driven the vehicle before the launch exhibition.
Same case with Aston Martin-Redbull's Valkyrie and Daniel Riccardo.

Just received the schedule for media unveilings.
In a stark contrast to previous edition of Auto Expo, this time only day 1 (7th Feb) has all the action.
There is no remarkable unveiling / launch on 8th except Maruti and UM.
This could be the effect of many companies opting out of the show. Sad.

Is Jeep participating in the auto expo? And if so is there a plan to unveil the Renegade that is bound to India and other RHD markets?

Jeep is not taking part in the Autoexpo. They sure are making the right noises outside with the Compass Trailhawk version.
Electric GEARED high speed cruiser. Now that sound very interesting.
most EV's don't have gear selection.
