Isuzu MU-X facelift spotted testing

Isuzu as a brand has decent recall, especially with the 80s and 90s generation of people and most of us would have heard some stories of Ambassadors supposedly equipped with an Isuzu derived engine at some point.

So isuzu and a good Diesel engine is something people may understand, but as a brand I do not know if India is ready to accept that Isuzu is in the same territory as Toyota or Ford and more difficult to do so when the first product has been a pick up truck.

Recently an isuzu Dealer in Bangalore closed down, think it was trident isuzu.

From a pick up truck angle, only the people who wish to use it as a lifestyle vehicle will opt for Isuzu. Else from a pure commercial perspective there are alternatives from Tata and Mahindra where the cost is substantially lower.

And hence there is no big volume for Isuzu in the pick up truck market, although they manufacture it locally.

And the MU-X has an even more difficult task, convincing people buying a Fortuner and Endy! The folks who want the soft roader have options in form of the CRV, Tiguan and the Kodiaq. For the people who want 7 seats and presence its hard to look beyond the Fortuner and the Endy since they are also good products in their own right, especially the current generation.

So what is the USP for MU-X? Nothing significant except probably a 10-15% lower sticker price.

I would be surprised if isuzu managed to survive in India without an association or JV with another automobile manufacturer. I thought GM would be that, but they have walked away as well.

Surprised to see no change in 5 speed auto. Internationally it has been upgraded to 6 speed. I had test driven the car few months ago and 5 speed auto felt very inadequate for Highway cruising for which most people will buy it.

This not much lower than the Endeavour or fortuner in terms of pricing. The savings would be lost in resale. Actually the 5 years 150,000 kms warranty and free service package should have be sold separately to avoid a sticker shock as people would not value it correctly. They wanted to go the GM route to inspire confidence in Isuzu brand but price also matters so they needed to go even lower.

Even the Y400 will likely sell more than the MUX

Missed opportunity for Isuzu to make inroads. Market leaders are testing, evaluating full electric vehicles to be available by 2020. Here we have have a company which had the opportunity to offer global specs in this market. India as a market is rapidly educating itself with information which some auto manufacturers fail to recognize. Just a name doesn't cut it anymore when brand presence and numbers are low, offer the world, at least for the person buying its a reassurance, warranty is one thing supply chain and service network models are readily available for reference.

Where as if the company actually means to convey that even with minimal support my product will survive because of the package we provide in this market (specs apart) then it's not conveyed clearly as I bet that would have made suv competitors take notice. That would have been win win situation for end customer.

Re: Isuzu MU-X facelift spotted testing. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 26.26 lakhs

I wish they’d updated the interiors, at least a little. The interiors look exactly the same as the pre-facelifted MU-X which in turn looks exactly like the V-Cross. China got such an updated and beautiful interior but sadly for India, they (Isuzu) decided to stick to the old dash design. Attaching pics of the China Facelift Interiors and India Pre-Facelift interiors. Dad was planning to upgrade from our Innova to the facelift but the price, the bland interiors (no offense meant to existing owners) makes me want to suggest the Fortuner to him.

Re: Isuzu MU-X facelift spotted testing. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 26.26 lakhs

Isuzu should have updated the gearbox, improved the exteriors and more so the interiors and then, maybe the prices would have somewhat made sense.

But as of now, it appears, Isuzu is doing half-hearted attempts at tackling the Indian market. The dealer network is thin, products are from an era gone by.

Isuzu's products are as capable/reliable as any other Japanese manufacturer out there but first Isuzu should gather some footprint prior to being greedy.

Isuzu MU-X facelift spotted testing. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 26.26 lakhs

Looking at the chatter on this thread it looks like dud on arrival anyway hope to see better discounts with the slew of suv launches. also saw some pic of pay 50% in 3 years etc and 50% on 3 year somewhere but no mention of it anywhere. Anyone knows about it?

Re: Isuzu MU-X facelift spotted testing. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 26.26 lakhs

Another absolute dud on arrival. With V-Cross, there is no competition. Anyone who wants a modern lifestyle pick up has to go to the Isuzu showroom. But with SUV's, there is strong competition from established players like Toyota, Ford and soon Tata & Mahindra. The only way for Isuzu to make any impact in the SUV space is to give a modern package at good value to the Endy/Toyotas.

Offering a dated powertrain which is not sold anywhere else in the world is not the way to go about it. 6-Speed automatic gearboxes are available in the Hyundai Creta. There is no reason, why Isuzu should flog a 5-Speed in India which has been discontinued in the rest of the world.

Dear Isuzu Management. India is no longer a 3rd world country. Wake up an smell the coffee !!!

Apart from the 5-speed gearbox its pretty much the same as Australia including the interiors. That said, the market for Isuzu even in Australia is not people who love toys in their cars, its hard wearing honest to goodness mechanical reliability and towing (which is not as important in India).

If Manufacturers don't take India seriously, India won't take them seriously either, why should world over their products should be 1-2 steps ahead and India gets left over stuff.

I don't think Isuzu will ever work in India when likes of Toyota launch their latest models here while Isuzu launches stuff which would have worked 10 years before.
