What are the bore and stroke figures for the new 2.2 lt. engine?

The figures for the original 1948 CC TCIC/Sumo engine are 83mm X 90mm.

For the petrol Safari, the Tata engineers simply rebored the engine to 86mm and kept the stroke at 90mm. This increased the engine's capacity to 2.1 lts. (2092 CC). Of course, the head unit was entirely new.

Since the new engine is being described as a 2.2 lt. unit and if it uses the same block (looking at Tata's obsession with keeping costs low, it probably will), would the new engine have bore and stroke of 87mm X 90mm?

Can someone good in maths calculate what engine capacity results from 87mm X 90 mm X 4 cylinders?

Cheers!

"Somone in the know" at Mahindra's Mumbai office says April launch of the 2.2 ltr version.
Any reliable dope from Tata on when they plan to come to the market with theirs?

Probably good enough to call it a 2.2 litre.
Wonder if Himanshu Goswami can get us the exact info. He seems to have a hotline directly with Tata's R&D Centre.

The comments on this site suggest that the 2.2 lt unit has a new aluminium block. So where does cost cutting come here?

A little birdie (reliable source) told me that there is a new 3ltr or 3.4 ltr (if i overheard correctly) around the block and is really brute in nature and drinks only diet diesel (milage can be compared to the current 3ltr dicor). iS built on the same block of 3ltr. Its ages ahead of the current dicor and will be an awesome machine to own. More when i come to know more

I speculate we can expect this motor with the new platform August of 2010.

Hi
I am also eagerly waiting for 2.2L dicor but dont want to become the road tester for their new engine

Having said that 3.0L engine is tried and tested and also the fact that the lot after 18-Jan is refined, does it make sense to wait for 2.2L. I am confused here.
Also has somebody the precise info about the changes being done in the 2.2L other then the engine and whether they shall be able to address the cons of the safari as mentioned at various reviews of the vehicle

a)The steering is not direct and is non-linear as well.
b)The brakes however need serious improvement
c)Quality of dashboard plastics, Spartan
d) Traditionally constant RPM engine has very small rev-range and suffers from late response
e) Not a true blue offroader, ABS inadequate
f) Clutch is heavy and gear throw is long
g)Car feels very front heavy around corners and subject to lots of roll

I have raised the concern in one of the other threads also but just thought to get the feedback from this thread also
In general what kind of issues do come with a vehicle like Safari if you buy a new one?

regards
pogu
