Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

The name "NANO" has been driven deeply in to the minds of people as "CHEAP CAR"
Tata should come out with a new name, a new sporty body styling like the smart car. The can again launch with just 2 options - A petrol engine with all bells and whistles and an electric car with good range for city commute.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

I think Nano is a great city car. Despite being built to a budget and missing a lot of creature comforts, it was a decent car.

If Tata were to come up with another Nano, I hope that they keep it a small city car, something like Smart for four and Renault Twingo with a neo-retro design like the Honda e.

Renault Twingo

Smart forFour

I think I could find a lot of takers if it is decently equipped, easy to drive and not as bare-bones as the older version.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

Other than that marketing blunder, which projected Nano as the "Cheap" car. I don't any other problem. Instead, they would have called it the "Affordable" car. Thumb rule, We can call it cheap but they should not say that it is cheap. This applies to everything we buy.

Also, that yellow color option, which is synonymous with auto-rickshaw, made people make fun of the car. Even me

Many people waited for it to see on roads and it was succeded in creating that initial much-needed buzz. And after it's launch, many people went to Tata showroom, checked it, stretched their budget and booked Alto.

My wishlist for 2.0 is,
  1. Don't name it as Nano
  2. Remove Yellow from the color options
  3. Place the engine where most people expect, also give it some more horses and take measures to reduce the noise (outside)
  4. Reduce the height a bit

The Europa model would have done better but that autorickshaw exhaust note was terrible. Maybe Tata can think of launching an EV Nano with Europa looks.

This shouldn't be restricted to the Nano wish list only. The only area where TATA is still lacking to a certain extent.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

Slight updates to the exterior and make it an ev. Rename it to something like an Evo and make sure it's got a good city range. The issue is that it must not be linked to the nano. They need some impact 3 design to overhaul the exterior. Is it worth the effort? Maybe not. They are better off getting a decent Tiago ev out.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

I own a nano XTA and the only wishes that I have are disc brakes, more power, bigger tyres, and airbags. It ticks all boxes for a city car. I have it as a second car and I am completely satisfied with what it offers as a second City errands car. I don't care about the social tag like a cheap car; the practicality it offers is more important to me.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

Regardless of any internal modifications to the engine, suspension, fuel lid, dashboard whatever (which have already been mentioned and which have to be done) , a Nano that has any external resemblance to the current car will be DOA.

There will have to be substantial external changes - ideally a completely new design with no resemblance to the stigma attached current model.

All that will cost TATA a substantial amount as these - new tools, dyes etc are the most expensive bits in the development of a new car.

Tata will be loathe to do this as this is a risk that they would never want to take again.

The new car will and should be priced high as these modifications don't come cheap but the second but relatively minor bit for Tata will be to come up with a new name that spells class / exclusivity / upmarket that reflects the new higher price and aspirations of prospective customers.

I totally agree @KVNair. The Nano XTA has everything I needed in a city use only car (chiller AC, small footprint, automatic, easy to drive and park). Better brakes and Airbags would be the only things I can ask for. Steering angle adjustment would be nice too. Power is more than sufficient for the city. I don't need luggage space. I will struggle when I have to find a replacement (I hope the electric will come out).
3 years 9 months and 15000 Km with my Nano and there is nothing like it available.

Should have been marketed as India's City Car ! However after buying it I realize I am now free of wondering what people will think based on what I drive. I know why I bought it and I find it extremely convenient - it is my choice out of 3 vehicles I own for crowded city roads and short trips where I can park it with ease.

Have not had quality issues in 3 years. Tata Service has been good too. Better than the experience I had with Hyundai in 11 years. However this may be specific issues with specific dealers.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

I am not sure if Tata will rework on new Nano, but as per this thread, if I may wish.
I wish it comes as electric car look similar to Tata Pixel. Pratap Bose can come with better Impact 2 design. Rage up to 300KM on full charge should be more that sufficient. Call it Tata Pixel, market it as smart city car.

They need to rework on the dashboard layout glove box. Get rid of Center console display and bring it behind the steering wheel.
Reduce the height of the car from its current height. I am over 6ft and when I sit in my nano there is over 6 inch of gap from my head to roof. I think it can be reduced and probably result in better aerodynamics/ handling of the car.

Again the question is how many will buy it just for city use.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

1. Change name, Nano is registered as cheap in the mind of most of Indians.
2. Engine makes auto type noise, want that to behave like a car.
3. Bigger tyre and engine.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

Since this is only a Wishlist, below is what I wish :

1) Better seats, Hyundai EON had good ones for a compact car.
2) Conventional Dashboard with storage spaces
3) Should be fully customizable like Mini Cooper, customers should have the option to do that digitally at the time of booking. Tata Nano should have its dedicated design app.

4) Under seat storage, with high placed seats there is a scope for this.
5) Have an option to put in touchscreen.
6) ABS, airbags and rear sensors are mandatory so taking them for granted.
7) Current Top end should be made Base variant and they should offer a fully loaded premium top end variant with all bells and whistles.

Re: Tata Nano v2.0: What to add, retain and change if price isn't a consideration?

Driving a Gen X Nano for the last three years. Here are my views:

1. 10ps more power and 20Nm more torque required. Increase cubic capacity of existing engine or turbocharge the existing engine.

2. Disc brakes in front. Better booster assist.

3. Dark dash-top to eliminate windscreen reflection

4. 13" - inch wheels

5. Simple tailgate wiper

6. Rear seat cushion thickness to be improved.

Agreed about everything but this, customization might not kickoff or might not be as viable in a lower end car with expected high volumes.

Absolutely agree with you, Pixel has a premium image with Indian enthusiasts, the name is also nice and EVs are inevitable, Pixel can be India's smart car. Basically has to look hot with premium features.
All bells and whistles and EV @5-6Lacs ? (not sure if its possible).

I bet would be the most desired second car for sure.
