Re: No AWD on the Mahindra XUV500 BS6 (AT option continues)

Dealer dispatches of the BS6 XUV500 have commenced.

A total of 55 cars have been allotted to Mahindra dealerships across the country and they should be reaching by May-end/first week of June, depending on location. These cars were produced in 2 production shifts by the third week of March 2020, just before the lockdown clamps came down.

Around 47% of the first lot of BS6 productions are of the W11(O) MT variant, while the W9 MT & W7 MT variants are ~24% each. The remaining 5% are the base W5 MTs.

For colour options, a whopping 85% of the BS6 XUV500s produced are in White. The other two production colour shades are Black (11%) and Silver (4%).

Mahindra will resume production of the BS6 XUV500 shortly. These cars should be expected at dealerships by the 4th week of June, at most.

Mahindra launches BS6 Automatic XUV500

The Mahindra XUV500 automatic has returned to the SUV’s variant range. Previously discontinued with the upgrade to BS6, the carmaker has now re-introduced the option of a diesel-automatic variant. The engine-gearbox combination is available in three variants – W7, W9 and W11(O) – with prices starting at Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).

* 2.2-litre diesel once again available with a 6-speed torque-converter gearbox
* Diesel-auto powertrain available in W7, W9 and W11(O) trims
* Costs about Rs 1.21 lakh more than respective manual variant

Mahindra has reintroduced the Aisin-sourced 6-speed, torque-converter automatic unit with its 140hp, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine – a combination previously available in BS4 spec. The gearbox comes equipped with a creep function and a sequential manual mode.
The automatic gearbox-equipped variants cost a premium of about Rs 1.21 lakh over their manual gearbox-equipped counter parts

Re: No AWD on the Mahindra XUV500 BS6 (AT option continues)

How would it fare against the AT Harrier ? It is equally (and more) spacious and also has similar performance. The MHawk is a proven engine too. Also it has some practical advantages:

1) flexibility of 7 seats.
2) Larger boot as a 5 seater
3) Slightly better (perceived) After sales service and resale value.

I test drove the Harrier AT yesterday and i came back really impressed. The gear shifts are super smooth, no jerks and very responsive. it worked pretty well in manual mode too. Gears shift was very fast.

I was quite excited to test it after having read the official review & indeed the gearbox and the engine mating is done well.

I put XUV500 above the Harrier. The AT was extremely smooth and reliable in the BS4 XUV, I don't expect any difference in the BS6.

If you aren't swayed by the Pano Sunroof, the XUV is still a very capable alternative over the Harrier.

This is very competitive pricing by Mahindra. The W11(O) is a competitor to the Harrier XZA+ and that is at 20.20 L ex showroom, i.e. 1.4 lakhs more than the XUV, which will translate into approx 1.7L difference in on road prices. The Panoramic sunroof of the Harrier is offset by the 7 seats of the XUV in the minds of most consumers. So it will be an interesting fight to watch.

It better be cheaper than the Harrier because in 2020 the XUV 500, launched in 2011, is terribly outdated.

The allure of the pano sunroof is much higher than the additional 2 seats. Additional seat requirement is based on use case but pano sunroof adds to the desirability quotient. I hope Harrier to sell more than XUV500 in the coming months.

XUV500 is definitely value for money for what it offers but the Harrier is totally worth the 1.7 lacs premium over XUV500 because it's much newer with a premium platform underneath.

It'll, indeed, be an interesting fight.

The only issue is that the XUV500 feels a bit dated. The Harrier has a fresher design and a panoramic sunroof, which has become the thing to flaunt of late.

Mahindra XUV500 W5 temporarily unavailable due to supply constraints.

Mahindra is facing supply issues with this variant’s audio system. The XUV500 is currently offered in three variants: W7, W9 and W11 (O).
