To me the MG approach with leatherite finish looks quite rich and vibrant compared to the shiny plastic finish adopted by the Taigun. End of the day if both the cars are priced similarly, the Taigun would have a tough time.

I had another question in mind, after posting the pics. For which I was thinking about your thread. And in comes the message that you quoted the post!

Struggling to understand how the Taigun has a 10-inch screen while the Astor is only a 10.1. Looks much larger in comparison to the dashboard and steering wheel against the one in the Taigun.

Also VW claims to have an 8 inch digital instrument console but it can only display speedo or rpm at a time, not both. Both sides also needed blanks to fill the space. Whereas the Astor claims to have a 7 inch digital console, but seems to be larger in all the pics, while also containing all the information (or are those analog dials on either side?)

Are these companies following different ways to measure screen dimensions? Wonder if we should we take a measuring tape to touchscreens as well now, like you revealed the the truth behind their claims regarding boot space.

Size of a screen is always measured as the length of the diagonal. The MG appears slightly larger because of more height & lesser width as compared to the Taigun which is wider but shorter! This is probably for ease of usage or maybe because of how they have designed the center consoles.

Same reason why phones are becoming taller and less wider - holding them becomes easier

The central MID on MG might indeed be of 7 inches which in size is smaller than that of Taigun but they used its surrounding cleverly which makes it to look like a bigger and a more complete setup. Unlike Taigun where they have put the blanks on both the sides, MG has utilised that space by putting digital dials on either side (allowing us to see both speed and RPM at the same time). This approach looks more classy and complete while on Taigun it looks like poor use of space.

How does long term maintenance of upholstery on dashboard panel fair out between these?

Quality of leather doesn’t look premium. Say 3-4 years down the line if one starts observing peeling or other issues like stitches getting worn out etc then how is it addressed?

This is my view on it.
Screen size is measured diagonally. If the screen is in square shape, area would be more but diagonal will be short. The exact opposite will happen in a rectangular screen.

Imagine a screen in the form of a 30cm scale. Diagonal will be very long, area will be less and screen will not be useful compared to a square screen with same diagonal.

Any indication of India prices from Indonesia version price release? Does this mean that in India it might start only from 13.94 Lakhs onwards?

Hope prices will be revealed in first week of October unlike VAG. Then only it will make sense to ahead and book.

I will be going to MG's flagship showroom in Gurgaon (Sec 15) to checkout Astor. Will share details here, if any.

This is the video of walk around posted by motor octane.

Like the 360 degree camera. Instrument cluster looks crisp.

Bezel on headunit day display is very big. Next generation to get OLED display with thinner bezel just like smart phone?

No subwoofer. Might disappoint audiophiles?

I just spoke to a dealer in Bangalore and he says that deliveries will not begin before December. Hopefully, your dealer is right, as we are looking to buy asap!

He also confirmed that the car will have a rear armrest with cupholders. However it will not have rear sunshades which is a bummer.

Still, the car seems like it's worth the wait and the rear sunshades is the only feature we will truly miss.

I went to MG Lajpat Nagar today and they assured me that the vehicle would be available for display tommorow (19 September)by 11 pm.
I am expecting good things from Astor, I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Let's revisit this in 5 years. The VW dashboard will still look like 80% of the original while the MG one will look really worn out.

The bling bling will look great till the dashboard is exposed to the heat in India.

(Not addressed to you) I also don't get the fascination with "soft touch dashboard". As long as the plastic quality is good, how does it matter. Who touches the dashboard all over the place while driving the car? I totally get the need for soft touch material where our hands, arms and elbows rest.
