I remember reading somewhere that the maximum length possible with ALFA is 4.3 metres. So it may be 4.3 metre instead of 4.5

The length and wheelbase values quoted are of their rival; Honda City (4549/4569 mm long, 1748/2600 mm wheelbase) and not of the upcoming Altroz sedan.

Re: Tata Motors begins work on Altroz-based sedan

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that the first thing Tata needs to do is compress the number of variants per car they offer. I understand they don't want a one size fits all offering but more of a variant for everyone philosophy, but one of the things that make me lose interest when browsing Tata PVs is simply the long list of variants on offer. I can't be bothered to sit and read through the list and identify the subtle 1 part difference between each variant. The Tiago seems to have 8 variants, the Tigor 6, Bolt 8, The Nexon a staggering 32 variants, the Altroz 18, Harrier 16. To add to the confusion, you can take one variant, use the customize feature and add things and land up in another variant without realizing but the Tata website will still show the original variant you picked. Personally, this is probably the only reason, I don't bother checking their site or doing a test drive. I just don't have enough atoms in my nuclear reactor to do the math of what each variant offers.

Don't quite agree with you.

On one hand, we appreciate Kia for offering so many variants in Seltos ( don't even have a count for that!) and criticize Tata for not doing the same . And when Tata tries to rectify it's mistake by offering various varients, we still criticize them by saying they are offering just too many varients!

In that case , it'll be even more difficult if you decide to go for cars such as Verna or Seltos. Though that is totally understandable.!

Re: Tata Motors begins work on Altroz-based sedan

I really wish TATA comes up with a powerful engine for this new sedan and does not end up with another Tigor.

With the almost diminishing market for C2 sedans because of CSUV hype, the impact will be still more due to BS6.

Hoping to get a verna/city competitor from TATA for sedan lovers.

If you remove the headlamps and the grill, we can clearly see where he's taken inspiration from.

Exactly. The volvo immediately came to my mind as soon as I saw the render. I wonder if it is just effort and time wasted or the first one to come out never mind the end result.

Whatever model they plan, I just hope they dont put the AMT gearbox. OEMs are making a mockery of this to the extent that AMT has become the default expression for automatic transmission in the eyes of the regular folks.

If Tata can pull this off with an electric version of 300km range, this would be a very intriguing deal.

Or they can collaborate with Volvo's Polestar division and get unique version on the roads

Re: Tata Motors begins work on Altroz-based sedan

Is this project still on?

There have been conflicting reports that Tata has shelved off the Altroz sedan and chosen to concentrate on the ALFA based crossover instead.

Is this true?

Re: Tata Motors begins work on Altroz-based sedan

This will make sense only if TATA is planning to launch a full fledged EV version of this sedan. It can easily have a bigger battery set up and could provide a decent range. The only way i see sedans return to better numbers is through the EV route. Also, these notchback designs may look great but the general buyer do not look at them as sedans but just hatchbacks with more space. TATA needs a proper sedan if they want to be taken seriously in the CIAZ, CITY space.

I don't expect the car any time soon. But I think the car will be based on the omega platform, rather than the ALFA platform.

Tata Motors begins work on Altroz-based sedan-b76cb9e4df9d4ea096b68a8a118435aa.jpeg

The pic is from the harrier and altroz concept video.

Cars on the right are based on omega and on the left are based on alfa. If you look closely, all cars are on their signature colors. From what we know, cars on the left: altroz gold, hornbill blueish grey. Cars on the right: harrier copper, gravitas blue.

My guess is, after gravitas and hornbill, it will be the goshaq 4m sedan and the peregrin 4.5m sedan. Mini MPV (ertiga rival) after these.

Bumping up the thread, hoping to hear from a birdie on any plans for the sedan.
