Mahindra Scorpio BS6 details updated on official website

Thanks to BHPian RavenAvi for bringing this to our attention.

Mahindra has silently updated the official website with details of the Scorpio BS6. The SUV will now be offered in four variants - S5, S7, S9 and S11. The S3 variant with the 2.5-litre engine has been discontinued.

Features and specifications haven't changed from the BS4 version, except for the discontinuation of the entry-level S3 variant. The BS6 Scorpio is powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 140 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1,500-2,800 rpm. The S5 variant comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the remaining variants get a 6-speed manual transmission.

Production of BS6 vehicles has been delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Also, prices for the new Scorpio could be announced after the lockdown is lifted.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio BS6 details updated on official website

Appears, as of now, the 4WD variant has been done away with, I don't spot anything about it in the official website.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio BS6 details updated on official website

So the following are the changes, from what I can gather

The S3 2.5 Litre engine discontinued
The 2.2 Litre engine in the 120 BHP tune discontinued

The only difference (engine and transmission wise) between the S5 and the S7 is the gearbox. The S5 gets a 5 speed, and the S7 and above get a 6 speed.

No. This Scorpio is now on the final lap of the race. Next year, the next-generation Scorpio will be launched - link

The wait for the launch date of the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio (codename: Mahindra Z101) is finally over. Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, has gone on record to say that the all-new Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in Q2 2021

Wait, what about the the petrol engines they had displayed in the Auto Expo?
I was expecting the 2.0 to be available in BSVI models, but apparently even the XUV500 won't use it.

With Mahindra you can never be sure of the last lap.
They streched CJ, MM540 and now Bolero to way past their use-by dates. I am sure they will launch a 'tour' version or a 'govt dept' spec version.

If they have made it BS6 they might well have plans for it.

Will debut in the Thar next year as per various reports, along with the next generation XUV 5OO and Scorpio as they arrive.

Mahindra is offering BS 6 XUV 500 for a premium of Rs 30,000 as compared to BS IV version. Why RS 60,000 premium for a Scorpio when same motor is offered in XUV 500 at a premium of 30k only. A fully loaded Scorpio will cost around 19 big ones on road

And at 19 lacs I think its one of the least safe and structurally unstable personal vehicle on sale in India. Its high time crash ratings should be mandatory along with car so that people can make a informed decision.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio BS6 details updated on official website

The Scorpio has been overpriced for years. The XUV is more luxurious, has more features and has more discounts than the Scorpio!! But the Scorpio has its loyal customers in the Rural areas.

We have to see which versions of it sell more, as I mostly see S3 and S5 or its earlier iterations of S4 more than the higher variants.

Maybe people accept a low (<10) kmpl giving petrol engine in a Compass, Hector & European imported SUVs. But I don't think the customers can digest a Tata/Mahindra SUV giving 7-8 KMPL. These two make very heavy SUVs. No way a petrol engine is going to delivery any good mileage even with TGDI. Even if they offer petrol - nobody will probably buy it (And Mahindra & Tata both have tried and miserably failed in their flagship SUVs with petrol option in India). It must have been a simple decision for the bean counters to shelve the petrol powerplants for now in these cars.

I think they'll wait a bit more for the market to accept the low mileages of SUVs as a trade-off & then start releasing them in the upcoming next generations. The next generations of XUV500, Scorpio may be lighter and more petrol friendly. The partnership with Ford will bring a new compact SUV - this might be the one that makes best use of the 2.0 petrol motor.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio BS6 details updated on official website

Correction to the above post by wheelguy - birdie tweets that the BS6 Scorpio range sees an increase of Rs 40,000/- over it's equivalent BS4 counterparts, except for the S5 variant which continues to be offered at the same BS4 pricing.

Which means that the BS6 Scorpio range starts from Rs 12.52 lakhs, ex-showroom.

BS6 Pricing (vs BS4) :-
S5 MT = 12.52L (12.52)
S7 MT = 14.35L (13.95)
S9 MT = 14.97L (14.57)
S11 MT = 16.14L (15.74)
