Amaron takes a Covid-19 shot at Exide batteries

Amaron has taken a dig at Exide batteries in an advertisement campaign during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The colour of most Exide batteries are red while that of Amaron are green. In the advertisement, Amaron says "If it's red, it's not safe", referring to the red zones and green zones classified based on the number of Covid-19 cases in a region. They have also used the hashtag "StayGreenStaySafe".

Amaron is a part of the Amara Raja Group, which is headquartered in Tirupati. They make batteries for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and farm vehicles. It is said to be India's second largest automotive battery brand after Exide.

To be honest, the first thought I had looking at that image is Eveready given their "Give Me Red" campaign.

Hope Exide takes a look at this and we get some healthy marketing trash talk.

This may just be another perspective of looking at it, but don't most batteries come with a status indicator on it which changes color? I thought they were referring to that. But if it was a dig, then it was a very integrated one to say the least

Here's what a Google image search for "Exide Battery" gives me. I think the target is pretty clear!

I don't quite remember which battery company it was, but the ad was like :

The pic of a battery, with the caption "Ex-Idea....". That was all! Powerful I must say. This was some years back.

Yep, Exide Battery shows up all RED, and Amaron Battery shows up all GREEN on Google image search.

For their sake, I hope their target segment gets this subtle messaging though.

Re: Amaron takes a Covid-19 shot at Exide batteries

My Exide battery on my CBR died last week. Had a 4 year warranty and it conked off in its 5th year from purchase. The dealership put in a new Exide battery. Afterall the bike is red and red bike with red battery means +5 horsepower.

Red and Green branding applies to Exide and Amaron stores too:

But since Red/Green zone & Covid-19 is associated with death, I don't think neutral observers will take this well. Lenskart got some bad press a few years back:

'Shake it off like the earthquake' says Lenskart ad after Nepal tragedy kills over 3000

It is a very creative thought amidst all negatives flowing around due to COVID-19. Some creative brains are trying their best to make it positive. After the COVID-19, all the companies really need to pull up their socks by adapting innovative and open to change to strategies.

In my opinion, this can be one of them. Let's see how others comes up with their creative thoughts!

Didn't notice this new thread till today. I had posted about this add in the car battery thread yesterday. I am not really sure if the general public will actually understand such a subtle hint (it's obvious only to enthusiasts). Even I didn't get it immediately.

And a different advertisement popped up when I opened this thread.

This case is similar to Duracell vs Eveready batteries.

Re: Amaron takes a Covid-19 shot at Exide batteries

That's a Corona googly from Amaron to it's competitor still at # 1. I have changed over to Amaron and only Amaron for all my four and two wheelers. And only the "Green" ones, not white or any other colour, though one of my four wheeler's had a white Amaron, as factory fitted.

Over the years, I have come to the harsh conclusion with very harsh memories that Amaron is VFM and the only choice, and the green ones only. The two wheeler Amaron green batteries do not have a "Tortoise Life", but pop off within three years. The four wheeler batteries (you require long and healthy lives here for varied reasons) have lasted me nine years in my two non AC cars (2009-2018 (Landmaster) and 2011-2020 (Maruti 800)) and about 4-5 years in my AC car.

It will most likely emerge like a poor man's version of the famous big budget Cola wars. We can only patiently await the riposte to the "Green" from the # 1.

Amaron justifies itself by proclaiming everyone to stay in the "GREEN ZONE".

Re: Amaron takes a Covid-19 shot at Exide batteries

On long usage is Amaron durable/reliable than exide? Is that the reason why Exide is number 1?
