oops, i mean, "loved the engine roar" once the needle went past around 3200-3500rpm.

and the last line was "merc have become too common"
No, only the V8s are AWD, this , the inline 6 cyl, was FWD

i agree infact not only after 1999 but actually sometime before that people had stopped buying volvos
dont compare it woth merc as merc has always been unbeatable

3>well volvo too
1: I was referring to Bangalore which you seemed to be talking about as below:
Quote:
for 4 years in bangaore i found only one merc station wagon but around 5-6 volvo stationwagons and and also good number og volvo sedans
3: Volvo' were not that popular from my observation at least in the south. Most of them that came in were via scandinavian/ UN NGO's or NRI's from the US

Spoke to some guys I know at Planet Ford who claim that they are being regularly treated to the sights of a Volvo S80 and they swear that inch for inch it can be a Merc killer(no mention of the BMW of Audi).

I dont wanna get into long reviews, but would like to type in this line

"the xc90 v8 had the BMW 530i licked in the acceleration"

One hell of a SUV, hope to spend more time with it soon.

Boss, you are comparing a V8 that has almost 80 more horses than the 530's 6cyl.

Boss, but then the XC90 is a SUV, and weighs almost 500kilos more than the Beemer, doesnt it?
That line wasnt meant to be so serious, the line meant to show that the xc90 v8 really is a tyre burner

I absolutely hate the interiors of S80, they dont belong to a 40 lakh rupee car. I dont see any reason why anyone should go for the volvo when you can have the big germans selling for almost the same price.

^ : Drive the XC90 over roads its meant to be driven on, and u will hate it even more. The way it responds over bad roads is "PATHETIC". You pay almost 50lacs rupees, and all u get are jerks/rattles/shakes from the SUV, that too a Volvo SUV. I was disappointed.

Well according to the manufacturers website the xC90 hits 100 in 7 seconds while 530i does it in 6.7
Although the beamer in India is detuned to meet fuel quality, i am sure if Volvo is smart enough they would have done the same.
However i still dont see an XC90 having the 530i licked in acceleration.

This is conflicting.
And if I want performance and handling from an SUV why shall I not buy a saloon which will have the XC90 licked in handling and performance. In anycase its poor on bad roads as you said.

Sahil : Our V-box tests confirmed the XC90 is faster. Yeah, the international websites have different figures, but then the manufacturers do change certain things for the engine to handle bad fuel. And every manufacturer does it differently : may be thats why the difference

extreme : The first post was made on 5th december, when i got to drive it on good roads, making good use of the V8. The second post was made yesterday, 6th december, evening, after i had spend a good half day with the beast, on and off the road, and realised how average it was on bad roads, and this reflected in the post.

For power hungry people, the Xc90 V8 rocks, but only on good roads

As for choosing a sedan over a SUV : personal opinion. Some people like it big

Re: Pics :Volvo to launch its S80 sedan and XC90 SUV in India around September this y

Volvo XC90 facelift launch by early 2014.

Currently, the Volvo XC90 is available in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol model is powered by a 3.2-litre, six-cylinder engine that develops 243bhp and 320Nm of top torque. While the front-wheel drive diesel model has a 2.4-litre, 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine that produces 163bhp, the AWD model is powered by the 2.4-litre turbo charged diesel engine that belts out 200bhp and 400Nm of top torque.

The facelifted Volvo XC90 is expected to get the refreshed common family look, improved interiors, and the engine might go through some minor updates as well. The vehicle will house a more broader front end that incorporates new and slimmer headlights and new grille with more prominent horizontal lines. The new XC90 is also expected to get an all-new multimedia system and the TFT instrument panel. The vehicle will be made availble the CBU route.

To gain some market share in the luxury car segment of India, Volvo, is all set to launch the facelifts of S60 saloon and XC60 SUV by the end of this month.
