Re: Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

A Toyota product in the CSUV segment could do wonders provided maruti has no involvement in the same.
The Toyota - Maruti partnership could hamper the brand image of Toyota.

The Suzuki - Toyota alliance gets stronger. After seeing the RAV4 based Across from Suzuki(Hybrid For Europe), now we have 'Made in India badge engineered' cars exported to African markets.

Toyota STARLET is the GLANZA/Baleno for Africa.

Link (Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh)

The 2020 Yaris I meant was the JDM, Europe model. The smallest model on the TNGA platform, and hence deemed too expensive for India.
Rather than the Sienta which is cramped & overpriced, they’d much rather bring in the Avanza, which has a respectable 3rd row for its size.

Fat chance, and I mean F A T, of the JDM Yaris coming to India. Even if they did bring it here, it’s price would be miles away from the Glanza. It would price itself out of the market.

Now, if Toyota woke up from its slumber & launched the GRMN however..

Are you referring to the CHR? It suffers from the same dilemma as the Honda HRV, in my opinion. They would clash with the pricing of the Fortuner & CRV respectively.

Ermm.
Unless brought and priced as a CBU, the Ch-R and HRV is not going to touch the Fortuners' and CRVs price range. Though they are definitely priced too high for our market.
Add to that the CHR is too cramped and small, while the HRV is too much of a flowy crossover design.

Love the Avanza's packaging, as well as the monocoque RWD, tyres placed at corner layout.
The thing really had a 'dog chasing tail' sort of turning circle.
It would have been the perfect Ertiga rival, IF it and the Rush were launched 5-6 years ago.
Now it's too late. With the Maruti partnership, a huge chunk of Daihatsu products may not reach here.

The GRMN
Starting from the Toyota announcing the GR range of products coming to India.
Not the Supra.
It is the 86 and GR Yaris that I look forward to.

Irrelevant strategy, just improve currently available models. 865kg premium hatchback(glanza) just ruined Toyota's image. We Indians need safer and reliable cars like ford ecosport, Hyundai creta, venue. Not just names.

I think they mean 6 affordable vehicles and 10 over priced vehicles which will sell in single digits.

Re: Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

If any of these needs to happen, work should have already started, or should start now. That is one too many models for an assembly line to handle.

Else, these could be built up units imported.

As a strategy, it doesn't make any sense. They could pioneer EVs in india, as they have the financial muzzle and brand acceptance. Three reasons,
  • They don't have engines for small/mid size cars.
  • The do have tiny electric cars.
  • They could use Suzuki platforms and convert them to EVs, this the differentiation remain, so is platform sharing.

Re: Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

Here's my take on what might come:

Platform sharing with Suzuki:
1. Suzuki Brezza <> Toyota Urban Cruiser
2. Suzuki Baleno <> Toyota Glanza
3. Suzuki Ciaz <> Toyota's replacement for the Yaris
4. Suzuki Ertiga <> Toyota's small MPV
5. Suzuki Vitara <> Toyota's Creta/Seltos/ Duster SUV competitor

Toyota
7. Fortuner
8. Innova
9. Hilux
10. Corolla sedan (+ Hybrid?)
11. Corolla Cross; 4.5m long SUV with a Hybrid to compete against the Harrier, Hector, Tucson, and CR-V
12. Prius - as the flagship Hybrid
13. Camry Hybrid
14. SUPER EXPENSIVE Land Cruiser
15. EXPENSIVE Vellfire
16. OVERPRICED RAV 4 or 86?

Also, I'd not be surprised if we see a re-incarnated Etios platform to produce a low cost sedan and small UV for the commercial market.

True. Considering the news that Toyota's Bidadi plant will be used by Maruti for production of Brezza and Urban cruiser, it looks almost impossible to have high number of models under Toyota.

3. Suzuki Ciaz <> Toyota's replacement for the Yaris (Manufactured in Suzuki plant)
4. Suzuki Ertiga <> Toyota's small MPV (Manufactured in Suzuki plant)

6. NEW MPV Suzuki/Toyota (Manufactured in Toyota plant) - Above the Ertiga in price.

Re: Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

I think I will apply for a Toyota showroom and only sell badges and convert Marutis to Toyotas and make a living. I don’t need big floor space, can even open in prime locations and have “Toyota Premium” showroom name, with swanky attendants. Customers can come is with Marutis and leave with gleaming pride in ‘premium ‘ Toyotas! What say Toyota? Yep, I promise I won’t put that badge on Alto, won’t hurt your premium image.
