Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

The car looks good (Name apart).
Equipment wise it is adequate for the segment.
For me, missing sunroof(if I am correct)would be a blessing in disguise !
What I am slightly disappointed is lowest in class boot space of 308 liters.
And worries remains of the structural safety of heartect platform.
The car is going to sell in good numbers for sure !

Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Such a nice offering from Maruti. Seems like this one will eat into the sales of hatchbacks and entry level compact SUVs. It even posses the looks to challenge its sibling Brezza and its competitors.

Suzuki could have adopted the Cross badging similar to S-Cross and A-Cross to call this one the B-Cross. Would have been a much better name to possess.

Kudos to MSIL for such a nice addition to their line-up. Looking forward to test drive. I hope the ride height to be slightly higher than Baleno, so that people will get the 'SUV' feel.

Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

This was a rumour waaaaay back in 2015, 8 years ago, that Maruti will be launching YRA as Fronx, but they launched the hatchback YRA as Baleno. Now they have named the Baleno cross as 'Fronx'. Don't know where this name came from

Such a weird name for a smashing car that's hard to find any faults with. The article from 2015 below,

'Fronx' option is now available in the drop-down list on Nexa website for e-booking. Guess, the Jimny option will also be available in some time.

If they price it well, it's going to cannibalize both Baleno and Brezza.
Yes, it will canabalize sales from those but more importantly for Maruti, it might pull some people from Punch/Nexon blockbuster duo as well, which is where Maruti's eyes are at.

I think Baleno be unharmed(just a guess, might depend on the price differential and being more premium specially with 1.0L tubro might put it above 10L ex showroom where RTO charges also mess with the final on road price) by this but as for Brezza which now feels in a bit of a weird middle where upgrading to GV or downgrading to Fronx will probably feel more sensible.

But given Maruti's track record, I think it will manage to move around healthy volumes of all 3 pretty well. And hoping this is the start and we will see many more Turbo powered cars from them.

As GTO often says - if you don't cannibalise your products, someone else will!

Cross shopping and keeping them in the same brand is never a bad thing.

Somehow, I feel the Sizzling Red shade that comes in new Brezza and will come in Jimny would have looked much better and sporty on the Fronx instead of this darker Opulent Red shade.

Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Looks more like a model to compete the erstwhile i20 Active/ Polo Cross/Etois cross etc. which were just raised platforms of the underlying hatch. None of them except i20 Active made any impact.

This does look better then those and I am sure will set the charts on fire. I am happy they brought back the 1.0 Turbo. It was hoot to drive on the Baleno RS.

The car is mostly inspired by the WR-V than the above examples with just had plastics on the same metal body - with significant changes to the bonnet and a gaping grille to make it look more crossover.

Infact, in person it does remind one of the WR-V, especially from the front.

Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Just saw the Nexa booking portal for the Fronx. The 1.2 K series is available only on the base Sigma, Delta and a Delta+ variant. Delta and Delta+ are available in both manual and AMT while the base Sigma is available in manual only. The top variants Alpha and Zeta get the Boosterjet in both manual and TC avatars. Delta+ also gets Boosterjet but in manual only. Clearly thought out strategy this by whoever at Maruti to avoid cross shopping between the Fronx and the Baleno.

The variant spread is as below:

Wow, after Grand Vitara, another beautiful looking car from MS. Very similar to T-Roc, or maybe call it a mini T-Roc. Boosterjet engine will make sure, this will be a hit among Bhpians for sure

Never been a big fan of Baleno's looks. But the Fronx looks pretty darn good! One of those rare good looking small crossovers. Usually, crossovers look like they are trying too hard to look SUV-ish, but the rear of this one looks so stylish and unique.

Re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

How MSIL picks up design clues and ideas from TML, reminds me of the Dzire being picked up from the Indigo CS and this one has been picked up from the Nexon.

It shall be priced and aimed squarely at the Nexon, which has become a thorn in the flesh for MSIL.

Do see the Nexon numbers dwindling down in the months to come, feel extremely extremely sad for TML.

Sadly, we Indians, pick design language over engineering finesse, hard to imagine, how with a single engine (the 1.5 is a different bore and stroke of the same 1.2), MSIL captures over 40% of the market share.

Thankfully it was not named Bronx, people there would have had suicidal tendencies looking at what was being offered in the name of their city, a good quarter into the 21st century.
