Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

It's a Mitsubishi Lancer like many of us here!
I was really fascinated by this Ajay Devgn movie "Taarzan: The Wonder Car." There was this rumor among us kids that the car is heavily modded, Mitsubishi Lancer. Dilip Chhabria was god-like back then. Premier 118NE was my crush till that movie and from there Lancer took over it. I developed a huge crush so that I even had an exclusive Lancer album where I collected and pasted Lancer pictures from various magazines, newspapers, etc. I used to sketch the Mitsubishi logo on all of my notebooks front pages as well .

PS: My whole childhood was a lie. Just recently came to know that it was not Lancer in that movie but a 1991 Toyota MR2! But even today my laptop background is a Rally Spec Lancer Evolution VI

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Agree with many on the forum about these cars. In particular, especially because of movies, I drooled over:
1. Tata Sierra - not sure about the interior, engine and comfort, but was bowled over by the styling (especially the rear glass)
2. Nissan Bluebird (exclusively imported by ICRISAT for its "foreign" scientists working in Hyderabad)
3. Contessa (read newspaper accounts of the many rallies it won in India)
4. Maruti Gypsy (used in many movies, but especially in a Telugu movie set in a rally)
5. Lancer!

For me, it had to be the Jellybean Zen. There was something about it that just drew me towards it as a kid.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

My crush had to be the Land Cruiser Prado. Saw one of these when I first visited Dubai when I was 7 years old. I still remember telling the name to every friend of mine when I came back after the vacation. As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?-capture.png

It has to be the Indian muscle. Always had a crush on the Contessa.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Peugeot 309!
Saw this beauty in a marriage function when I was a kid (I was 8-9 yrs old) . The bride had used this 309 as their main car. I still remember drooling all over the place. Owning a car was like a very distant and unattainable dream during those times ( we didn't even have a bicycle at our home then). The kids who were sitting with the bride were beaming with pride while we ( me and my friends) stared at the car with a mixed feeling of jealousy/awe. Pheww..Those were the days..

Same here; as if its our prewedding period, we have got a photograph of the 'to be bride' ; the images on the car ads published on the Sunday times of India were a saviour for a small town guy like me.
Luckily the image is available on Google search:
The Tata Estate for me.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

When in school (the late 90s), I always wanted to own Maruti Suzuki Esteem. It was really my dream car. I always call that car by its full name.

As I progressed to college, Tata Safari and Honda City were my favorite cars.

After driving my dad's Maruti Astar for a long time, I finally bought Ecosport.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

I can only only think of the below stonkers in the walls of my study room back in mid 2000s.
  1. BMW 3 Series
  2. Honda Civic
  3. Maruti Swift
PS: The only option to get a decent pic of these were “The Week” magazine which I got a one year free subscription after winning a zone level quiz competition.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Hindustan Ambassador MarkII with the oblong parking lights/indicators: My uncle had one of these, and it was such a thrill to sit in the front seat as he drove it at (what seemed like) very fast speeds. The pull switches were an added attraction.
On a different note, it was a different world entirely those days, when all that HM had to do was change the parking lights to round ones and market the vehicle as a refresh.

The Nissan Jonga used by the Indian Army was another cool vehicle. It could go anywhere, and had a powerful petrol engine. Was great fun bouncing around in it.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

For me it's always been the Toyota Land cruiser 100 series- understated, timeless and very very handsome. Engines with turbo makes it a hoot to drive as well.
