Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Interesting post, thanks.
And since it's titled "crush" so affordability is out of question, here are mine :
  • Daewoo Cielo/Nexia (Silver) : this was dreamt up to be my first car.
  • Mitsubishi Lancer SFXi (Red) : was driven around in a GLXi once, was impressed so SFXi was my age appropriate choice, and those alloys.
  • Ford Mondeo Duratec HE (Silver) : just liked the car, understated performance and elegance.
  • BMW M3 E46 (Silver) : the looks, best IMHO till date, Timeless elegance is the word. FE-RWD and that engine. If I can think of one car that I can live with for good it's this one.
  • Golf GTI (silver/blue): the last crush.

Have I matured, yes. Have I grown old, no.
All it took was the sound of a Golf GTI rorting(making up this word to explain the exhaust note) next to me for that unexplainable feeling to come rushing back.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Maruti Omni. I still can't fathom why but yes, loved the van to bits as a 6 year-old and wanted my dad to purchase that instead of the Premier Padmini that he bought in the early 1990s. I was bitter and very disappointed when he went for the Padmini as the first car in the family. But hey, I quickly got over it, though.

Next love was Daewoo Cielo. Till date, it remains the only car that I have taken newspaper cut-outs of!

Another parallel love during these years was the Tata Sierra. Maruti 1000 too, to a smaller extent.

Then came the Opels- Astra & Vectra, the ever-so-rare Ford Mondeo and somehow as I grew older, the drooling stopped and careful appreciation brought about by reading, took over (got my licence only in 2005).

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Hello everyone.

As a kid, I was so much into UVs, not much has changed now.
My first crush was TATA MOBILE (206), I was 9 or 10, may be.

From my childhood I would go with the Honda civic. Man those taillights and headlamps were so wild ! I still think that is one of the best looking cars of that decade !

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

I grew up in one of the remote (then, not anymore) and small towns of Odisha and did not see any luxury cars around. My only exposure to them was through car magazines like Motoring, Autocar etc, which I could lay my hands on whenever i visited my uncle's place. He had a Exide batteries dealership and got these magazine subscriptions for free.

There were 3 cars in my town that I had a massive crush on. I used to see them frequently and they were owned by the biggies of the town (a contractor, lawyer et al) and I could not help ogle at them.

1. Mitsubishi Pajero 2800
2. Tata Safari
3. Opel Astra

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

As a kid and till my teens, I always loved the Mitsubishi Pajero and the mini Pajero, especially the blue one, as blue is my favorite colour. These were lovely SUV's and those who have it till today swear by it.
If I had a second parking, I would probably have a pre-owned one in my parking.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

The earliest cars I recollect having a crush on:
- Standard 2000
- Contessa classic
- Premier 118NE

I ended up buying a perfectly preserved 10 year old petrol 118NE as my first car purchase in 1998 and used it for a several years. It was a extremely well maintained car with a Nissan petrol engine and was a pleasure to own. The person I sold the car to had it converted to LPG and continues to use it to this day.

Re: As a kid, what Indian car did you have a crush on?

Some of the cars I had a crush on when I was a kid were
1) Mercedes W123 series
2) Rover Montego
3) Hindustan Contessa Classic 1.8GL
4) Daewoo Cielo

In addition, there was the Ford Crown Victoria, Oldsmobile (70s muscle car models), Pontiac station wagons, Mazda models. I remember some ads in the Readers Digest and a few old American magazines we had. Those cars looked fantastic !
Also, I distinctly remember that we were acquainted with a Japanese family in my neighborhood in Panaji, Goa, the gentleman was heading a representative office of Mitsui and Co. That gentleman had a lovely Nissan/Datsun sedan specially imported at the time.

3. Maruti Gypsy

Though not an Indian Car E30 BMW is one crush which I can never get over, I am quite not sure when I saw her first , but she is still my crush after all these years, and almost brought one when I was working abroad.
