Re: BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine launched at Rs. 51.50 lakh

This is insane pricing! The 520D luxury line was launched at the same price just 3.5 years ago, it is too short a time for the 3-series to move up tot he pricing territory occupied by the 5-series.

Kudos to Mercedes when they launched the extended wheelbase E-class, they did not price it much higher than the previous generation regular wheelbase car. Fundamentally costs are not going to be that much higher and I think it is a greedy move by BMW and one that will hurt longer run resulting in massive discounting.

Here's how the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine stacks up against the Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Volvo S60 and Jaguar XE on the price graph.

Beautiful perspective, GTO! I wonder though what percentage of customers would appreciate the legroom for themselves, being chauffeured, and what percentage would want it for their rear passengers. I'm guessing that BMW's aim is to induce chauffeured Mercedes customers, mainly, to jump over to the BMW camp.

On a side note, I wonder if the automotive industry should borrow a leaf from Apple's book (on the lines of iPhone and iPhone Mini) and make the LWB version default ("the 3 series"), and offer the shorter version as the sportier trim (3 Series Sport). This might alleviate the chance of someone looking it at the LWBB as better value than having to pay Rs. 4L for 4cm more room, and the enthusiasts would be happy to have a less expensive, better-handling version, which would mean a win for all. The products of course remain unchanged; just the tweak in packaging that might make it psychologically even more palatable and enticing.

Re: BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine launched at Rs. 51.50 lakh

50+ is ridiculous pricing! Is BMW taking a leaf out of Audi's books? Price them high, then offer deep discounts when they don't sell!

What is wrong with luxury car makers!?

Oh My God! What a beautiful looker. Love the looks, both exterior and interior - luxurious and yet muted and of course with BMWs driving competencies and now finally enough leg room to squeeze in with :-). If it weren't for the fact that I will now wait for the EVs to come and settle down before investing in another car this would have been one exciting set of wheels to buy. Glad BMW is finally discovering that the Asia market likes longer leg room at the back and a softer ride.

The 3 series is a brilliant car but this LWB version doesn't make sense to me. Even with the extra space, it won't be as comfortable or as quiet as a C. And at the price it has been launched at, the E-class with discounts will be a much better deal.

Re: BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine launched at Rs. 51.50 lakh

Slightly delayed but great move by BMW. What I have observed is that BMW carries its own fan base and so is MB. 3GL will surely attract the younger self driving enthusiasts, who usually finds it difficult to satisfy the needs of the family as well as sheer driving pleasure. Now they have best of both worlds. MB still has an edge since it sits a class higher with reclining rear seats and normally being compared with 6 series.

Question is:
1) Will this inspire the buyers of 3 series to push a bit more and opt for 3GL?
2) if yes, does this bring the lower sales for 3 as well as 5?
3) if that happens is there a possibility that BMW stops selling the regular 3 or lesser the number of variants that are offered with close to no discounts? or a vice a versa scenario that we get regular 3 series as mouth watering prices?

The first edition should have included the rear entertainment package to make an impact, that would be a first in its class feature and would have surely justified the price. But this would have literally killed 5 series. I still like the looks of 5 series compared to 3.

Re: BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine launched at Rs. 51.50 lakh

330i Sport: ₹42.6L
320d LL: ₹47.9L

330i M Sport: ₹49.9L

320Li LL: ₹51.5L
330Ld LL: ₹52.5L

330Li - M Sport FE: ₹53.9L

Apart from the extended rear door/window, pano sunroof, chrome/black highlights, different alloys (albeit same 17") & different exhaust vents, the italicized variants look very similar.

BMW should have differentiated the L variants more, given the premium positioning.
