That order was promptly withdrawn by TN govt.

Price hike is limited to the entry level variants of Thar. I think Mahindra will just add a top end model for the 3 door Thar instead of ‘upgrading’ the entire variants. My guess is most likely they will replace the ‘Earth’ variant with a top end variant.

It’s the same shade offered with Scorpio N and XUV 3XO models. Nothing new, so I don’t see any issues.

I am fortunate to work in India for a long time. And looking at the global scenario, India is the best place to stay, extremely safe (police human rights vis a vis US), retire and grow without sirens and stray artillery. It’s really safe. Pune is like an oven unfortunately. I am fortunate to get approved for a PIO through a Baghdadi relationship/DNA and stuff and present regime is very supportive to genuine applicants (otherwise??). I don’t mince words.

Now my question is since as we plan our future retirement and things before we die, with 15L down payment ready + 8L-12 L loan/3y what do I choose, say between a Isuzu Vmax or a 5 door Thar.

Thar which is being tested + seems to be a far more feature enriched and enhanced machine, pls kindly guide if possible to the best options.

PS- Will be asking for economical property options in UT in shifting gears.
Thanks.
Hello naj,

Am I right in concluding that you are a marine Engineer? A school mate (his surname I remember was Mallick) emigrated to Israel with the family back in the 1960's (yes I ask because of the star-of-david in your logo!). I am a retired marine engineer and I was wondering if you have any news of my friend. Our school was St. Joseph's, Allahabad, and i have fond memories of the chap.

Now about your query - I have the 3-door Thar ('21 model, LX, hard top, manual, turbo petrol) and I have no real complain with the car apart from the rear seat ingress/egress issue plus of course the near complete absense of luggage space. It is a great vehicle and draws eye-balls even after three years. The turbo petrol negates the usual low-end torque issues associated with petrol engines. The rear-seat access issue is the only reason that we too are hoping to migrate to the 5-door model.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 door will get the 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Quote:
- 1.5 diesel will serve as the entry-level powerplant in the line-up.

- Will also get 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options.

- Will be available with both 4WD and 2WD options

- Unofficial bookings open at dealer level

Excellent news! There was speculation that Mahindra would reserve the lower engine to the Thar 3 door, at least initially. But it seems they will be offering all options from the beginning itself, which is great news. Honestly, I can't wait to see it in person in the showrooms.

Me too.
I cross a Mahindra showroom daily on my way to home and office. Can't help the head turn as I pass the showroom with hopes that I will see the new 4 door soon in front of the showroom
Can't wait to see it in person with full feature list disclosed.
Price - irrelevant.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

The beast to be unveiled ...
Camouflaged pics itself are so intimidating. Just imagine how much road presence it would have. Definitely more than Scorpio-n.
I am super curious about 2 features in Thar Armada. They are:-
1) ADAS: I feel it is time for Indian road users to habituate ADAS. If not all, few of them are very good. For example, right now in India, KIA-HYUNDAI Group has the best ADAS suite. As Mahindra says that Thar 5 door will be family oriented, ADAS will be even more appealing.
2) White coloured interior: Elevates the cabin experience. It is a big machine, it feels more spacious when interior in white coloured.
Cant wait...

1.5 ltr engine for the 5 door, I'm assuming the 5 door would weigh atleast 1800-1900 kgs, wouldn't this make the car quite underpowered ? Ideally mahindra should aim to maintain a similar power to weight ratio as the 3 door atleast.

The 1.5L diesel under the bonnet of the upcoming 5dr Thar is a great news. Lower price tag + similar torque output + better FE. Hope M&M prices it aggressively.

The 1.5L 5dr Thar would make it more approachable to a larger audience and shouldn't lose out on pep, considering the current 2.2L and 1.5L has similar torque outputs on paper.

Re: Field trials of the 4-door Mahindra Thar begin!

Being a Homologation Expert in my Organization, I myself visit ARAI, GARC Chennai and ICAT for vehicle Testing but never take photo there because we are not supposed to do so inside these Test Agencies. (OEMs execute Non-Disclosure agreement with Test Agencies to safeguard their Data/ Specification /Photos of the camoulflaged vehicles etc).

I think we should respect that and not take photos atleast in the Test Agencies.

FYI, this is taken on public roads and that's the reason "camouflage" exists.
